Hu is a Prisoner of The Rock


Kelly Hu is to lead with The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), as his prisoner, in 'The Scorpion King'. Hu has been preivously seen in 'Martial Law' as Grace Chen (Pei Pei). The film is a spin-off of 'The Mummy Returns', which is based around the story of the Scorpion King, played by The Rock. Chuck Russell is to direct the Universal Pictures' movie.

The story follows the Scorpion King from when he was a peasent and how he overcomes obstacles to become the first pharoah of Egypt. The Hollywood Reporter reports

Kelly Hu (CBS' "Martial Law") has been cast as the female lead in Universal Pictures' "The Scorpion King" for director Chuck Russell. The project is scheduled to start shooting Wednesday in Los Angeles.

"Scorpion" is a spinoff based on the character the Scorpion King, played by World Wrestling Federation star the Rock, in "The Mummy Returns." The story centers on how the Scorpion King came to conquer Egypt. The character starts as a heroic peasant who defeats his enemies and overcomes huge obstacles to become the first pharaoh of Egypt.

Hu, who is skilled in karate and kickboxing, will play Cassandra, a prisoner of the evil Warlord, whom the Scorpion King must defeat. Her relationship with the Scorpion King evolves eventually to a love interest.

"The Mummy" and "Mummy Returns" producers Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel of Alphaville and director Stephen Sommers are producing the feature, which the studio is eyeing as a spinoff franchise.

Hu is repped by Innovative Artists' Craig Shapiro, Gold/Miller's Dave Fleming and Julie Wixson and attorney Rick Genow. She was a series regular on "Sunset Beach" and "Nash Bridges" and starred with Russell Crowe in the 1996 HBO feature "No Way Back."
