Universal Pictures has hired comic books-to-film specialist Hans Rodionoff to pen a potential horror franchise based on Clive Barker and Todd McFarlane's Tortured Souls action figure line.
The six grisly Tortured Soul characters were each sold with a chapter of an original Barker-penned storyline. When combined, the "Tortured Souls" chapters form a novella outlining the Souls' origins. Barker penned a treatment based on that novella, but the ultimate plot remains unclear.
Rodionoff is well known for penning drafts of the "Werewolf by Night" comic books for Marvel Entertainment and, at Artisan, for adapting "Man-Thing," about a scientist who becomes more plant than human.
