James McTeigue (First assistant director of
Matrix) is in talks to make his directorial debut on the adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel
V for Vendetta, according to Variety.
The Wachowski brothers were previously eager to adapt the novel but were sidetracked by the Matrix trilogy. The brothers are co-producing the project and are said to be completely behind McTeigue on the project.
An intensely dark graphic novel,
V for Vendetta takes place in an alternate future in which Germany wins WWII and Great Britain becomes a fascist state. A terrorist freedom fighter known only as "V" begins a violent guerrilla campaign to destroy those who've succumbed to totalitarianism, and recruits a young woman he's rescued from the secret police to join him.
