Will Smith and Ryan Phillippe are teaming to produce "White Boy Shuffle" for Intermedia Films, reports Variety.
Kevin Sullivan ("How Stella Got Her Groove Back") is attached to direct the picture, a hip-hop "Catcher in the Rye" about a young black kid whose Santa Monica beach life comes to a grinding halt when his mom uproots the family to move to South-Central Los Angeles.
"White Boy Shuffle" is adapted by Elizabeth Hunter ("The Fighting Temptations') from the novel by Paul Beatty.
The producers are aiming for a fall start.
