Synopsis: The conflict was one of the seminal battles of the Vietnam War for Australian and New Zealand troops. Eighteen Australians died Aug. 18, 1966, when a contingent of 108 soldiers from Australia and New Zealand fought off 2,500 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation at Long Tan, with enemy casualties numbering 200-500.
