It was on the 4th of July of last year that I decided to take a trip to the movies to see "The Devil Wears Prada." After watching this delightful movie I thought lead actor Meryl Streep

was at her best with acting. Her lead role as the majestic Miranda Priestly is the best role I'd seen her in. Her comedic appearance in "She Devil" is nothing compared to her serious lead role as a formidable boss, and owner of the most respected top fashion magazine, Runway. The Devil Wears Prada is based on the best selling novel by Lauren Weisbeger. I enjoyed this movie very much for its exciting display of fashion, a super soundtrack and the excellent performance by Ann Hathaway.

"The Devil Wears Prada" offers a well written script, a well executed plot, and storyline along with excellent pacing never leaving a dull moment in this film. The cast is outstanding and best suited for this Oscar nominated movie.

In this movie, Ann Hathaway portrays Andy Sachs, a young woman whose goal in life is to become a Journalist. Andy passes up her Stratford University opportunity and decides to work for New York's most respected fashion magazine Runway; a mega company ran by Miranda Priestly (Meryl Steep). Miranda is a very demanding, overbearing laborious, and a sadistic boss who pulls no punches when it comes to placing very high and over bearing expectations on her employees. Her conceited actions when throwing her coat and bag on the desk of an employer clearly echo her normal traits of demeaning her employees. Additionally, Miranda's demeanor also commands a high level of respect and everybody wants to please her jumping to her every demand.
Meanwhile Andy is put to the test when it comes to her fashionable appearance on the job. Andy decides she doesn't want to be a failure so she goes out of her way to please the dragon lady of a boss Miranda. She chances her attire with the help of her coworker Nigel (Stanley Tucci) a designer whose hopes of moving up, and leaving Runway magazine comes to a terrible conclusion of disappointment. Emily (Emily Blunt), is Miranda's assistant, and eagerly waits for the opportunity to go to Paris with Miranda a trip that she has worked very hard for. But Miranda has other plans she has informed Andy that she'll be taking the trip to Paris instead of Emily, and that she has the responsibility of telling Emily that she won't be taking the trip. Andy is now confronted with her guilt-ridden conscience; she has sacrificed her relationship with her boyfriend and friends because of her new high profiled job.

When Andy takes the trip to Paris she meets a writer who plans to undermine Miranda, and Runway magazine. Miranda out wits their plans and remains on top. Andy has decided to quit Runway after she's confronted with her guilt of ambition that has caused her to abandon her boyfriend Nate (Adrian Grenier) a simple guy, and cook. What happens to Andy and her future? Will she rekindle the love of her life and her friends? You'll find out when you see The Devil Wears Prada.

Final Thoughts

"The Devil Wears Prada" is a must see movie that you will enjoy very much. As I mentioned earlier Meryl Streep is at her best performing role as a witty highly conceited and difficult boss. Ann Hathaway also provides an excellent lead role as an ambitious employee who makes a heart touching discovery that being successful isn't worth giving up the most meaningful friendships in her life. Stanley Tucci provides a heart touching role as a designer who gets stuck in a job with only a doubtful hope that he'll be rewarded for his hard work.

Overall "The Wears Prada" is a heart touching and provoking movie that will keep your attention, and leave you with a lot to think about. It's kudos for Meryl Streep in the best lead role I've seen her play since her 1983 role in Silkwood. Ann Hathaway provides a highlighting performance that carries this movie to its heights of success. The Devil Wears Prada gets 4 stars, it's a must see movie.
