Synopsis: Ermo is a hard-working peasant. The sole breadwinner of her family, she rises daily at dawn to undertake the exhausting task of making dough for the twisted noodles she later hawks in the village market. Ermo admires her next door neighbor, "Blindman", for his industriousness. His wife, "Fat Woman," is the proud possessor of the only television set in the village. She and Ermo have been feuding for years: Ermo envies Fat Woman's easy life, diligent husband, and TV; Fat Woman is jealous that Ermo has a son. Backyard battles and village politics get stirred up when Fat Woman throws dirty water on the noodles drying in Ermo's yard; Ermo poisons Fat Woman's pig. Thus precipitates Ermo's crusade to better her life through the purchase of "the biggest TV." She begins to hoard her earnings and tenaciously gathers more cash by working in the kitchen of a swanky town restaurant and selling her blood to a city hospital.
