Synopsis: October 9, 1967: Che Guevara is executed by the Bolivian Army (aided by the CIA). Guevara's diary, a detailed personal account of his futile 11-month attempt to foment revolution in Bolivia, is the basis of this portrait of one of the most compelling figureheads of the 20th century. Che's relationship with the mysterious Tania, his betrayal by local peasants, his battle with asthma, and his pain upon the death of comrades are recounted. Interviews with Bolivians who met Che during these final days testify to a man who embraced sacrifice for his ideals (and the sins of others). It is not the least bit ironic that the image of his handsome, bearded corpse, surrounded by smug army officers, recalls that of the martyred Christ, flanked by Roman soldiers.
