if harnessing free energy was somehow discovered by science, and if it is used it might collaps the universe.

1.will scientist still try to use it dispite that.
2. what if it didnt collaps the universe what would be the pros and cons of it.

Free energy would not collapse the universe, because if it did, it would not be free energy.

Colossus-Big C what would free energy be?

Colossus-Big C what would free energy be?

I think he means zero-point energy.

Free energy is already available.

What evidence do you have to suggest that using something that is part of the universe (in this hypothetical) would collapse it entirely? People made the same outrageous claims about the LHC, and look where that got them.

Zero-point energy takes a lot more energy to be free from the void.

How can there be such a thing as free energy? Energy is always conserved and entropy always rises.

erm Define what you mean by free energy here.

I was going to go down that path, but i was afraid someone would call me a racist.

You racist! laughing out loud

I don't think he knows. If he did, the initial explanation of free energy would have been more clear so as to disambiguate the premise.

Wild Shadow
even if it did collapse the universe it would take billions of yrs traveling at light speed as it tears down or collapse in on itself

Free energy = potential or kinetic energy that one does not have to pay or exchange goods for.

That =/= What anybody means when they talk about "free energy"

That = what I was talking about and what others asked me to clarify, though.

Don't forget, my meanings about things I say are >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> what others think they mean.

Also, my first post quite clearly clarifies what I meant and what I thought the thread starter meant.

So for B you want to know the pros and cons of an object that is more massive than the entire universe? Well the first thing that comes to mind is that by virtue of existing it has destroyed the entire universe.

how would size make a battery eternal?

Symmetric Chaos

It's a requirement.

Let's use a more subdued example since it's a bit more illustrative. A magical 2lb battery can provide 80x10^16 Joules of energy during it's life. Very elementary relativistic physics (e=mc^2) tells that every pound of the battery weights ten pounds, which is a logical nightmare.

Now we want infinite energy from a 2lb battery. Now every pound of the battery has infinite mass, which is a slightly less obvious bit of nonsense.

I would think that number two would be a safe bet.

I'm sure it wouldn't take very long to discover a free and renewable energy source if it were a united goal. As for now though, it seems that free energy will never be a goal or possibility. Food and energy are the infrastructure of every nations economy. If you were to take these two things away without replacing them with something else, the worlds economy would collapse and the main focus may return to land, which would most likely lead to the most powerful nations conquering each other for their land. Even if there were a free source of energy, it would be taxed.

If you look at what, Tesla (one man) was able to accomplish in his primitive era, free energy seems to be more than just a dream.

We know of lots of plentiful zero-cost sources of energy in our environment they're just difficult to get access to and the power you get out has to be transported by wire and stored somehow. People tend to underestimate just how miraculous oil is, it's like energy in a can.

Your post reminded me of replicators. Those would solve world hunger, man. WORLD HUNGER! Now we need to get crackin' on those Heisenberg compensator. hmm

Now, I would think that it would take a lot of energy to arrange sub-atomic particles on such a "massive" scale...so we would need a massive power source.

This brings us back to energy, again. We'd have to story up a shit-load of energy.

Yeah, i suppose it's just a matter of harnessing those energy sources into a mass battery and finding a practical way of delivering it. I've recently been studying the life and inventions of Nikola Tesla. I had seen a documentary on his life on the Discovery Channel. Teslas ultimate goal had always been discovering a way to supply free energy. Even though it seems that he had succeeded the later focus of the show tilted towards modern day scientists who are attempting the same goal. This brought up the topic of Magnetism and it's potential. I had always heard of the potential of magnetism but after seeing that a group of Swiss scientists were success in creating a turbine powered solely by magnets i started a bit of lazy reading on magnetism. The more i research the possibilities the more surprised i become.

I don't think World hunger can ever be solved for the simple reason that the problem isn't a lack of food resources but rather governmental and economical.

Hey..,what ever happened with all that Cold Fusion hoopla? I remember reading this old book on, Cold Fusion and apparently, just a few cups of top water would be more than enough to power a city for a month. That sounded like a good prospect to investigate. laughing out loud

If you fall for one of these at best you will lose thousands of dollars; at worst you will lose your life. These usually start with an email from a bank official or the relative of a recently deceased African president or a government minister informing you that they have new york escort access to millions of dollars but need your help to get the money out of the country. The end result is that when the deal is threatened you will new york asian escort be asked for money to secure the release of the funds. Do not new york escorts under any circumstances reply to these letters, people have been murdered while following up with these scams.PhishingPhishing scams can be very elaborate, scammers send out emails to millions of internet addresses purporting to be from a financial institution, and requiring you to log in and new york asian escorts confirm your details. The email looks authentic and contains a link that you need to

NIMBY, also poop has low energy content.

the sheer amount should more then make up for it..

besides that is not what albert eistiens formula says/./

Maybe.

You can get energy from poop, of course:
http://www.energyquest.ca.gov/story/chapter10_zoo_poop/index.html

If you look at that they say that the 1000 pounds of waste they get from six elephants is not enough to cover the zoo's costs.

An optimistic estimate says that 1 ton (twelve elephant days) of poop gets you as much energy as just 50 gallons of petrol. That comes to 16,000,000 barrels equivalent per year for the US.

In 2007 the country used that much oil in 23 hours.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/ene_oil_con-energy-oil-consumption

That's an imperfect approximation since oil goes into a lot of stuff besides energy production like you propose. Let's look at it another way.

1 ton heats a middle class home for 2 weeks (Nat Geo article). That means 26 tons heats the home for a year. You can heat 400000 homes a year on nothing but poop. That's about 0.12% of the US population.

It's not going to solve our problems but if cities start using it as an additional energy source it could be very helpful, assuming such an action causes research into more efficient processes.

e=Mc2

That's the mass-energy of poop, not a gauge of its realistic energy density/caloric content.

Wild Shadow
pfff.. a nuclear reaction from converting the waste would more then power the city for a couple of months shifty

besides we dont need to fully convert but just help lower energy cost and price of other fuels as well as complete reliance..

finding other methods would help.. its like the same as installing a wind mill in your back yard... it may not always work but it could help with the bills and make a noticeable difference in once wallet each yr

I would like to have a solar-array on a large plot of land with little robots that would clean and maintain them shits. That'd be nice...a great way to retire, no doubt. (Cause you could sell the energy back into the grid.)
