The Nuul

A few things with new forums. They've been tried by several people since I've joined KMC. The C Master and Delph had degrees of success. With The C master probably putting the most work into his site. The rest have pretty much been abandoned.

Everybody wants to be a mod on new sites. When the initial flurry of anticipation and novelty wear off people generally go back to KMC. Especially those who wanted to be mods.

Rehashing old threads. Another drop comes when large KMC threads get remade on another forum. Again, once the novelty wears off people go back to KMC.

Most other free boards are just inferior. Despite KMCs age it's still superior in most aspects to free boards. Aside from recent glitches, KMC is still very stable and user friendly with built in conveniences.

Kmc is by far superior to most other sites. I don't see why it would suddenly crash. Is there some reason to be worried about kmc crashing? I don't see a problem here. Why does everyone need kaz again?

The logical solution would be to make a paying forum and finance it with poster money so people feel inclined to go there, enjoy superior quality/upkeep and ultimately pull in new audiences through both discussion and other kinds of content.

As Bada said, doing stuff for free makes it easy for people not to invest the time/effort.

Why are we moving forum?

Sure this one has a few glitches but without good moderators, those new forums will just get trolls.

I like this one but if people are moving to another one, I will likely move too.

Flyattractor
I voted No.

Already stated why in the other thread.

I like this one but if people are moving to another one, I will likely move too. People are worried the lack of an active administrator will result in the forum degrading. We've had some glitches but KMC is very stable.Originally posted by Bentley

This site has its mechanical issues, but nothing so severe as to consider abandoning ship that I know of?

Plus I like our stinking shithole of a site, I've been here for 8 years and a lot of us for even more.

Something awful tried that.

If a deep analysis of the Bayformers movies is an example of paywall quality posting, I can only assume the truely insane would pay to post. smile

Okay, i was wondering what this was about.

I'll register a name so no one uses it to do some dumb shit over there.

The Nuul
why put in time and effort into kmc a site that is dying instead of a new forum/site with a future? doesn't make sense to me

KMC is far from dead, but it obviously doesn't match the old days in sheer volume (the comic book vs. forum used to have like three pages of new threads every day).

Damborgson
Yeah, not the same as it used to be. Our respect forum is pretty much unused now too, when it was something KMC was well known for. Though that has a lot to do with Photobucket going full retard.

- Raz disappeared, last time seen in 2016

- there is a new owner of KMC, apparently (Tariq Anwar?)

- lots of glitches since the last server move, Raz promised to fix those, then made Ush his deputy and vanished

Ush never got made deputy Admin. That was something we pushed for, and he said he would do, but never did. Ush was just senior-most global.

StiltmanFTW
I know, he never got any actual privileges, but still got elected by Raz.

Man that is way too much. Sites that flooded always lost my interest back in the 00s.

Elected how? We all sort of deferred to ush at one point, but there was never a proclamation. He was technically no more powerful - even in implied status - than any other global.

Ush was chosen, accepted it (for a while) and nobody questioned Raz's decision.

1) Ush got hand-picked by Raz.

2) His title was changed to co-admin.

3) Raz disappeared without a word, never giving Ush any extra powers (kind of weird, considering Raz appeared online afterwards - last time on 24th March, 2016, even).

4) Bada and the rest of the forum respected Ush's co-admin status nonetheless.

5) Ush resigned, as being a co-admin makes no sense if it's nothing more than a title.

Agreed in full. I think we're just talking about slightly different things. My "never happened" comment was in reference to any actual ability to make changes beyond what globals could already do.

Maybe Raz died, and the last log-on was somebody checking his internet history?

One Big Mob
Why don't one of you homos just hack Raz's account and appoint someone trustworthy a secret admin with the power to give mod powers and make changes?
Raz was gone for years when I was last on. It's pretty obvious the guy got beheaded in a drunk driving accident after he got his last cheque from his KMC riches. Or the pressure of being a big shot kmc admin got to him and he hung himself to his last climax. Like he cares if someone comes in and changes things for the better.

No one will hack raz because kmc members are all talk and no action. No one here has the balls to do it

Why the phuck are you looking at porn instead of wanting to be admin of kmc ? Your priorities are wrong bran erm

One Big Mob
Not everyone can handle the pressure of being a KMC admin. Even to the end the only thing you know is the pressure you have to put into the shotgun trigger to end it all.

The problem with most new forums is like Bada said: everyone acts like they'll start visiting, but never actually do. It will literally take KMC 404'ing for anyone to permanently jump ship. That's a fact.

...And everyone seems to want 'teh mod powa!!!!' on new sites, for some stupid reason. If it were me, I'd keep the same layout as current KMC(albeit with the extras you see on most forums these days), x-port over most of the noteworthy threads, keep the same mods(the ones who still want to be mods, at least), and let THEM decide who else should be 'modded'... And I'd most definitely give one of the globals access to the Admin side of things, just in case I went full-Raz.

Good summation. And why anyone would willingly want to mod is beyond me. Bada and PR are goddamn saints, among the handful of others who have stuck around who deserve similar praise.

I'm functionally retired, so I don't actually think of myself as a mod anymore (I ban/close the odd sock or spam thread, but that's it). But like, aside from using my position as leverage to get the respect forum created years ago, there's been precious little worthwhile in my decade or so of moddom, at least none that wouldn't have been the same as a regular member. There's literally no power trip, unless you're content to be stupid for about a day until you get stripped of your powers. Though I will say it prepped me faster than regular membership would have for dealing with trolls both online and irl, which is no small skill.

If I saw the endgame in the form of either ad revenue that would justify the work, or a markedly better forum that people would actually go to, it might be different. Or a decade ago when I had nothing but free time. As it is, this thread's attempt at going streaking down to the Quads was about as successful as it was in the movie.

In case anybody is wondering administrators cannot see your private messages.

I can see ( for example), on TA, who you have pm'ed and who has pm'd you but not the message itself.
