May as well get the thread started for Christopher Nolan's next movie.

A biopic based on J Robert Oppenheimer and The Manhattan Project

So far Cillian Murphy will play Oppenheimer and will also star Emily Blunt

Sounds dope; will watch.

jaden_2.0
Some cast he's put together too. Besides the aforementioned there's also Kenneth Brannagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr, Rami Malek, Matt Damon, Dane Dehann, Casey Affleck, Matthew Modine, Florence Pugh and Josh Hartnett

Robtard
That's a tremendous cast, Oldman's my favorite actor, while Downey Jr, Malek, and Damon almost always deliver solid performances.

Even the lower tier isn't bad, though Dane Dehann doesn't come to mind.

Dehann was excellent in Chronicle and A Cure for Wellness. He's had a few other decent roles and some utter howlers as well tbf. Like Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets.

Robtard
Ah, that guy. Yeah, he can do a solid role.

This is now my mist looked forward film.

Patient_Leech
I've been extremely meh on most of Nolan's recent work.

I'll check out a trailer, but I'm not expecting my panties to get wet for this like every seems to for Nolan.

I loved Dunkirk, but Tenet was a mixed bag for me. Enjoyed lots of it, but never want to watch it again.

jaden_2.0
I was the opposite. Dunkirk, while the cinematography was top tier, the stupid chronology and mostly poor casting choices and weird pacing didn't really do it for me. I've watched Tenet 3 times now and almost fully understand all the time changes. Only the scene in the turnstile room with the reversible conversation still makes me scratch my head. The last half hour is phenomenal though when it all comes together on the boat and at the ruins of the closed city.

Robtard
I've though of watching Tenet again to see what I missed and to get it to gel better as a whole, just can't bring myself to do it.

Patient_Leech
I was never even a big fan of Inception, so don't get me started...

I will say I do at least respect Nolan for his conceptual approach to his films.

I just haven't found them particularly enjoyable.

Old Man Whirly!
It will at least be quotable. If nothing else Oppenheimer was verbose as ****.

jaden_2.0
I should note that I am massively retarded because I just realised that John David Washington from Tenet is Denzel Washington's son. 😄😄

I didn't know that until right now, it just means we're both not racist who assume all Black guys named "Washington" are related.

jaden_2.0
It's also the reason he should be the recast of Black Panther because it'd give a literal meaning to Chadwick Boseman's speech

Old Man Whirly!
I have a feeling as with Enigma, this may be depressing as ****.

Jaden_3.0
Cillian Murphy hasn't got the recognition he deserves. Hopefully this film changes that. Some of his performances over the years have been phenomenal from his early days in Disco Pigs, The Wind that Shakes the Barley through some of his supporting roles like in In The Heart of The Sea as well as roles like in Sunshine and 28 Days Later

Patient_Leech
I hesitate to get too excited about Nolan films. He's a very conceptual director. I didn't care for Inception nearly as much as most people and I didn't like Interstellar at all. But I will maintain some cautious optimism about this. The trailer is nice.

Robtard
Interstellar is another film I need to watch again, as I feel I missed some things. But that god awful sound. Just so off putting.

I probably should see it again, also. But I can't bring myself to do it. I thought it was mostly just cringe.

It's better with home viewing. Same with Tenet

Hopefully he doesn't get too offbeat with this. Even the chronology of Dunkirk was a step too far for the story that needed to be told. Sometimes his insistence on being smart works against him.

Jaden_3.0
There's a new trailer for this before John Wick. Doesn't appear to be on YouTube yet.

I watched Interstellar again about about a month ago, mid-low level volume and I turned on the subtitles. It's a very good film. The sound stage really brought this film down in the theaters.

A nice bonus for tonight then, as Oppenheimer is the upcoming movie I have the biggest hardon for thumb up

saw the triler again prior to john wick starting. this looks real good i must repeat

Still my most anticipated film of 2023

Jaden_3.0
Knowing Nolan's penchant for as much practical effects as possible, he probably tried to get permission to build and detonate an actual A-bomb.

So happy I got my body ready for this long ago. Going Friday.

Patient_Leech
I plan to avoid the hype and just watch casually at some point.

Nolan has been over-hyped to me on too many occasions.

Too much Nolan slander in this thread. He's never made a bad film. Even the ones that supposedly are, like Tenet, are better than 95% of the slop put out in theaters nowadays.

Impediment

Patient_Leech
^Agree with that. Except I've seen Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet and found them all super overrated.

Robtard
Tenet I didn't care for too much, can't say it was a bad movie, just not great. Though I should probably watch it again, I'm sure I missed some stuff the first time around being a Nolan film.

Dunkirk and Interstellar are great though imo.

BruceSkywalker
I watched Tenet when I was in the hospital but I need to rewatch

BruceSkywalker
seeing this tomorrow at 12:30 pm

Just got home from seeing this... I RARELY use words like masterpiece but this film is truly that. Everyone was well cast and they played their roles expertly. I liked how Quantum Mechanics was explained as well.. I highly recommend

Fuuuuck. I'm still going to wait. I'll enjoy it more at home with subtitles. I hear it's got the same Chris Nolan dialogue/audio issues.

playa1258
Few hours for me. Hope its a good as Bruce says.

Robtard
Fantastic film, drew me in, highly recommend. Best actor/support actors is to be had here.

My only real complaint was that Nolan sound stage where the volume of background sound is just too loud in certain scene.

Patient_Leech
I'm hearing mostly good things about this from friends, but I'm also hearing it's not what they expected.

That's sometimes a good thing.

was a great great film, its good to see Nolan back on his game as Interstellar, Dunkirk and Tenet all missed the mark, way too pretentious and artsy for the sake of it aka Nolan getting too far up his own ass... but yeah, Oppenheimer was a fantastic return to quality for him.

I want to see it.

NemeBro
Movie was largely great, I only have three main criticisms of the film:

1. His mistress' character and Oppenheimer's relationship to her seemed a little extraneous and underdeveloped compared to most others with her screentime.

2. The sound mixing. This is a very loud movie, and it often gets to the point where a character is saying something but you can't hear them over the music or the ambience.

3. Them whitewashing/downplaying the actions of the project in not just displacing the natives of the area but even having them work for low pay as laborers on the project without being given PPE that the non-Native workers were is honestly pretty lame, gross even.

I finally finished this. Had to break it into a couple different sittings.

It's fantastic. Waiting to watch at home with subtitles was a great decision.

Pretty blown away by the skillful and engaging editing.

It's a stupid simple thing, but I really liked the delayed sound from the explosions. Made it feel real, like you were there.

This definitely ranks up there with Nolan's best films.

I don't think I've bought a Christopher Nolan film since Batman Begins.

This one is nice. A very nice making-of documentary, and some other stuff I haven't gotten to yet.

jaden_2.0
You might be the only person I know who still buys blurays or dvds. I haven't bought one in about 7 years

Patient_Leech
Gotta fight that compression when I can, bro.

Patient_Leech
This makes me like Christopher Nolan more...
