Nice little tease. It does at least look leaps and bounds better than Covenant. (But that's of course not necessarily saying much). Funny that they're returning to the Prometheus music when everyone bitched about that movie and made Ridley Scott birth the abomination Covenant.

That music IS bitchin', though...

Patient_Leech
I like the return to the Prometheus production design. The teaser is nice, and might even work better than the movie itself with the screams and then revealing the blood, but then the last shot of the Alien at the end is boring and overdone. It just looks like it's going to be a repeat of space truckers stuck with Xenomorph(s).

Ridley Scott said it best when he said the Xenomorph is "Done. Cooked." 🥱

But maybe the cool space station-looking setting and atmosphere will make it work.

I'll hold out a little hope, but not much.

jaden_2.0
There's been 8 Alien movies and only 2 of them have been good. And almost 40 years since the last good one. There's not much to be hopeful about.

Patient_Leech
Well, until Ridley Scott ruined the lore with Covenant I liked them all, even the flawed sequels. There were things to enjoy.

Kazenji
Movie looks good from the teaser, Holding out hope it is good

Predator got a good sequel recently in the form of Prey, Its time for Aliens to get one.

I mean AvP1 wasn't bad if you want to count that.

So is the Engineers supposed to be in it?

The big goofy very dumb Engineers?

I love these films, I'll definitely watch it when it drops.

I may be being overly harsh. I quite enjoy 3 because I like Fincher's direction. It gets a lot of harsh treatment over what happened to Newt and Hicks. I think the design of the dog Alien is one of the better ones in the franchise.

Yeah, I always felt 3 was underrated. The nihilistic disposal of Newt and Hicks fits the series. It's a pretty big shame we'll never see his true vision of the film, though, because he had such a miserable time he abandoned it, but the Assembly Cut (I think is what it's called) is pretty good.

Patient_Leech
Apparently Fede says he made everything practical, so that's good.

But what is this image from...? It's pretty damn cool...

I have no idea. I doubt it, but it would be cool as shit if they surprise us with an appearance.

I get major Prometheus vibes with the production from the teaser, so it would fit.

I'm going to take back what I said and say this actually looks like it could be decent. Even with the trash cast.

That's why I said "proper." Ridley would be fine as long as they brought Lindelof back to continue what he started.

This just needs to bomb so they'll get a clue.

*Watched New Preview*

They're clearly going back to their Alien and somewhat Aliens roots, so more of the same, and that's fine as it still looks like a decent scifi horror flick.

Not a huge fan of the new xeno design PL posted a pick of on the last page. Looks too much like a xeno/Venom crossbreed. They nailed the look of the xeno early on, no need to change it now.

Unless that xeno isn't a xeno that busted out of a human?

Patient_Leech
^ I don't know if that's even from this movie. 🤷

Kazenji
Seems to me that there's a new Xeno for this movie, As its an abandoned lab whatever the **** that they were doing.

Patient_Leech
I got tickets for this because a friend wanted to go see it together. IMAX.

I've looked into it a bit more and the director does seem to be taking a good approach, so I'll maintain some cautious optimism even though it seems it's going to take nearly a goddamn miracle to bring the series back from the dead after the last entry (I think the director even WINK-WINKED diplomatically that Covenant is terrible).

I'm keeping my hype level low, but there does seem to be some decent buzz...

jaden_2.0
Reveals a bit more about the plot which piqued my interest. Beyond that it seems more a recut of previous trailers. Still looks good though.

Patient_Leech
I did hear a little more of the premise and I like it. Something about them trying to scavage an abandoned space station. Sounds good, simple, and creepy. I like it.

jaden_2.0
Yeah that. I was thinking it was another rehash of the settlers moving to another planet stuck on a ship or deep space crew encounter abandoned ship type story.

Patient_Leech
So I saw that this got a '15' rating for the UK.

Being an American I don't really know what that means, but it looks like the system is as follows...?

'U', 'PG', '12A', '12', '15', '18' and 'R18'

I imagine it will probably just be Rated 'R' for sci-fi violence and gore here in the States.

I guess our system is something like...

G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17, X (although I don't think 'X' is an official rating, but more slang for pron)

jaden_2.0
Early reactions to this are saying that it's very good and the best in the franchise since Aliens.

I'm not believing the hype. It's going to have to win me over.

Patient_Leech
This is largely quite terrific.

My biggest gripe is did it really have to be Ian Holm again? Because the deep faking was atrocious and distracting AF

But the careful structuring of the characters and story and world building is all pretty excellent.

Go give this money so he can do more!

playa1258
Seeing this tomorrow. Will post my thoughts when I get back

Patient_Leech
Cool.

Watching the trailers now after seeing the movie and they kick a lot of ass.

All the facehugger stuff is fantastic. There are some great sequences with them in the full film. I actually find them more interesting and terrifying than the xenomorph, tbh.

Khazra Reborn

Patient_Leech
Better than Aliens is probably a bit extreme, but it's inventive and imaginative in its own way.

Go see and make up your own mind.

I kinda liked it.

The first half of the movie is indeed boring as phuck.

The second half has some cool scenes and intense moments.

Not sure how I felt about the New Human/Xeno hybrid....

I don't think that's an accurate description of what it is. I think it's more Engineer/human, and less xeno. Remember she was previously pregnant and then injected the compound Black Goo or whatever, but I don't think she was infected by a Facehugger. My friend tells me there may be some lore regarding the Engineers procreation methods that it may link to, but I'm going to have to find out more.

Other than a couple minor gripes I kind of love it, too. I'm anxious to see how my minor gripes play on repeat viewings as well as that third act. I suspect they may bother me less and less.

Such a kickass setting and that's extremely important in these films, just like Prey understood the proper setting for a Predator movie.

Robtard
3rd best film of the franchise for sure. Found this to be a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Though still a fun SciFi horror even on it's own.

I loved the worn-in look of the ships and how the tech mimicked Alien and Aliens. Lots of other shoutouts to the previous films, most worked, some didn't.

The new hybrid looked a combo of human, Xeno and Engineer DNA all mixed and evolved. Which fits with established lore, as the proto Xeno was born from a black goo semen human embryo squid thing face-raping an Engineer and laying an egg, and what Rook said.

You are right it.

It did remind me of an engineer.

Khazra Reborn

I agree with Khaz. My initial reaction to the first trailer stands. Pretty decent despite the trash cast. Apart from the synthetic they were all just the same 1 dimensional plank of wood.
The plot was pretty solid so between that and the aesthetic they carried the movie.
The hybrid looked like something out of the tv series "The Strain". Basically some super strigoi looking thing. It was probably the only thing that looked terrible.

Overall it's definitely a 3.6 roentgen movie. Not great, not terrible

playa1258
Time to bring back the Colonial Marines.

ares834
Pretty good other than the final act. Wasn't a fan of it. The hybrid's design looks almost exactly like the Orphan of Kos from Bloodborne.

Also Rook looked terrible and was completely unnecessary. They really need to quit with this deep fake shit.

That and the android delivering the unnecessary "b!tch" line are really my only complaints. Otherwise it's freakin' solid as a rock. I don't mind the rest of the callbacks too much.

I'm hoping to see it again this weekend. Stoked to see it again.

carthage
I enjoyed it.
Great film and definitely a much needed return to the franchise's roots

wakkawakkawakka
Finally saw this. Might be a bit of a hot take but I liked the setup during the first 1/3rd of the film. Brobot Andy is probably the standout amongst the main cast. Though at this point I think the Colonial Marines were lightning in a bottle that's unlikely to ever be replicated.

Using the "b!tch" line from Aliens was cringe, but also kinda funny because Andy was an autistic android and the odd delivery kinda fit.

At least they didn't make autism some evolutionary advantage like in The Predator. Lol

Saw it, liked the first half or so. Liked it a lot, in fact. It quickly went off a ****ing cliff for me, though. Better than all but the first two, sure, but honestly pretty disappointed.

Patient_Leech
Just got back from 2nd IMAX viewing and will say that I liked it even more this time.

Things that bothered me before bothered me much less the 2nd time.

This is my jams.

I have renewed hope for the Alien franchise.

(My understanding is that Fede consulted with Ian Holm's family and they chose the CGI version in the film. So I get it. May or may not be the best version for the film, but it's apparently what the family wanted.)

Patient_Leech
Alright, so this is pretty epic, because it seems that Fede Alvarez wants to get this series back on track and finish up the Prometheus storyline...

And this seems to be doing pretty well at the box office so far, and performing particularly well overseas. So needless to say I'm going to be keeping an eye on it.

-Pr-
I'd rather he just let Prometheus die, tbh.

Robtard
The most interesting aspect of this franchise now is the Engineers, especially the more pale dickhead ones. They need to do a film (or two) that focuses on that.

Patient_Leech
^

Bingo. And that's exactly the plan as I understand it. I think it was good for the mythology to expand some and I really like the direction they took because it opens the door to so much more creativity. The series needed to expand beyond the xenomorph. And I'm glad there is hope again of some more Engineer involvement.

They also need to incorporate more Giger-esque imagery. I'm not sure why that hasn't been emphasized more.

jaden_2.0
The engineers are to the Alien lore what the Necromongers are to the Riddick lore.

Shite.

I disagree. This nerd also disagrees with you:

For me it was stuck between two stories. They've obviously taken on board the criticisms of Prometheus and tried to leave the cringey religious aspects of it behind and move closer to Alien and ends up halfway between them in tone. Plenty horrific body horror. Bits of the whole "creator" aspects although from a different perspective. The two biggest problems is that you give absolutely no ****s about any of the 1 dimensional, boring characters. Contrast that with Aliens where some characters like Apone and Drake got hardly any screen time but you still cared when they got killed. With this you'll come out struggling to remember any of their names. Something that could have been somewhat rectified if they bothered to include the scene in the extended trailer with James Franco before they go into cryo sleep. As it happens they didn't and Franco dies without even coming out of his cryo pod. A small mercy given what an annoying **** he is.

The other problem is that they go out of their way to telegram the most obvious of obvious plot twists. There must be at least half a dozen blatant hints before it happens and if you somehow miss them you are officially the dumbest person in the world. Then there's the fact that if you haven't watched the prologue you have no idea why David does what he does in the flashback and even then it's not really explained not to mention that what he does basically destroys one of the most potentially interesting threads the series could have explored. And once again it's only half a story strung out for the sole purpose of making another sequel and making more money.

****ing bullshit garbage. Avoid 2/10.

Oh hell yeah, this is up to $314 million worldwide and still rising.

BoxOfficeMojo

This is excellent news.

And from what I've heard where they filmed it, Hungary, it gets a 30% tax rebate on the production budget. So that brings the budget of $80 million to like what, $56 million?

Kazenji
I liked it alot

I'd say good entry in the Alien movie franchise

and about time we finally see the transition from Chestburster to Xenomorph. Only time we've seen that happen was in the game Aliens versus Predator: Extinction.
