The Amish

What does everybody think about the people who live in the present day but start cultures outside the city that look like there set in the 1800s.They where the cloths, they make the food, and they teach the same way they did a 100 years ago.

As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain
I take a look at my wife and realize she’s very plain
But that’s just perfect for an amish like me
You know I shun fancy things like electricity
At 4:30 in the morning I’m milkin’ cows
Jebediah feeds the chickens and jacob plows... fool
And I’ve been milkin’ and plowin’ so long that
Even ezekiel thinks that my mind is gone
I’m a man of the land, I’m into discipline
Got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin
But if I finish all of my chores and you finish thine
Then tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1699
cool

Well back on topic. I think it's more than a little odd that the Amish believe you have to stay away from modern society in order for God to consider them devoted or whatever...

They're major imbreeders. They tend to marry their 1st cousins and what not, alot because they have a small population that has kept themselves in an inner circle for a very long time.

I hear that at the age of 16 or so, they are sent out into societ for 2 years to see what it's like. Then they get the option to go back or stay out there.

Most stay because they've been raised one way, and they aren't completely suited for modern life.

A bit off topic....

Has anyone seen those absurd commercials advertesing a new reality tv show "Amish in the city"? An Amish family moves to LA to live a regular life in the big city and if they win...they get a new horse as a price?! Heavens sake! And we call ourselves civilization! no

AND....what about that "turn the other cheek" thing ?

OK....this rule is in all Christian bibles but I believe that the Amish actually carry it out to the letter !

This creates a feeling in me that makes me wonder what they would do if they were attacked by neighbours down the hill who wanted their land ?

OK...let's make the point bigger...

They live quietly and happily in the United States, enjoying their pacifist existence, but what if The Al-Quaeda decided that they wanted to bomb them all out of existence ?

Would they defend themselves or would they hope that their neighbours down the hill might want to do this thing for them ?

The point that I am trying to make here is that just like the suicide-bombers of the extremist Muslims, the Amish are willing to become martyrs for their faith even although every ounce of sense and sensibility should tell them not to....

So much for blind faith eh ?

"Amish in the city"is a bit intriging to see how they react to certain things that we use in modern life. But most of the time they arent even amazed at what we have.

A horse for a prize?

They would stand around praying, saying that God would save them if they "had faith" or something...

Damn it, beat me to it! laughing out loud

A local boy kicked me in the butt last week
I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek
I really don’t care, in fact I wish him well
’cause I’ll be laughing my head off when he’s burning in hell
But I ain’t never punched a tourist even if he deserved it
An amish with a ’tude?
You know that’s unheard of
I never wear buttons but I got a cool hat
And my homies agree
I really look good in black... fool
If you come to visit, you’ll be bored to tears
We haven’t even paid the phone bill in 300 years
But we ain’t really quaint, so please don’t point and stare
We’re just technologically impaired

There’s no phone, no lights, no motorcar
Not a single luxury
Like robinson caruso
It’s as primitive as can be
We been spending most our lives
Living in an amish paradise
We’re just plain and simple guys
Living in an amish paradise
There’s no time for sin and vice
Living in an amish paradise
We don’t fight, we all play nice
Living in an amish paradise

Hitchin’ up the buggy, churnin’ lots of butter
Raised a barn on monday, soon I’ll raise anutter
Think you’re really righteous?
Think you’re pure in heart?
Well, I know I’m a million time as humble as thou art
I’m the pious guy the little amlettes wanna be like
On my knees day and night scorin’ points for the afterlife
So don’t be vain and don’t be whiny
Or else, my brother, I might have to get medieval on your heinie

laughing out loudlaughing out loud
