Some are, the ones who allow themselves to get addicted and ruin their lives certainly are, IMO.
Also, I'd venture so far to say that taking illegal drugs is a blatantly stupid act, though not everyone who takes them is stupid themselves, maybe just naive or uneducated on the matter.
While I may not personally agree with the use of illegal drugs I would say its not if they are used its how they are used that can make someone stupid. Seeing as how some of the really nasty ones crack, meth, heroine leave a mark on you for life

People who take drugs aren't all stupid, as you said. There's a huge difference between users and abusers. Those who are stupid with drugs are stupid anyway, the drugs aren't a factor. They're just ruining it for everyone who uses them responsibly.
Well, if they're educated on the matter, and, as such, know the possible dangers of doing illegal drugs, and still go off and do them, then I definately think that qualifies as being pretty stupid.
Unless they're thinking "I know the dangers, but I don't think they'll happen to me, not me". That would fall under the naive part.
Um yeah not all illegal drugs can be used "responsibly" some are inherently more addictive than others. So anyway, taking drugs is a pretty irresponsible desicion regardless of whether or not you are stupid if you take them.
Of course a lot of people, and it is known, die from Tobacco and Alcohol related diseases. So whats the fuss with taking Cocaine ? or Marijuana ? or ant other drug considered illegal ?
Make them legal and that will avoid drug dealers and pushers mixing all the highly toxoc chemicals contanimating the drug.
Native Colombians chew Coca leaves and they live till old age. They dont die out of chewing coca leaves. Even Opium is smoked in Asia and it doesnt kill or to much damage as Alcohol or Tobacco does in Western countries. What kills is the concoxian of the additives.

Not all drugs have equal amounts of danger. No amount of educating yourself on heroin is going to prevent you from more than likely coming out the bad end, or not coming out. Drugs like weed, mushrooms etc...if you educate yourselves on them, there are safe ways to use them. They're not all, dive in and take a risk. That's only the view of someone uneducated on them.
Why are you assuming there are just two routes; stupid and naive? Why is it so mind-bogglingly hard for you to accept that some very intelligent and able people choose to use drugs (not abuse), do so safely and live to tell about it?
Then you said people who do the drugs such as alcohol are also stupid. Where are you getting this? Are you just anti-drugs for the sake of being anti-drugs, because they're drugs?
Never said intelegent people don't use drugs, nor did I say that these are the ONLY two routes that people go down, sloppy assumption on your part, AC. I'm well aware that many people of intelegence use illicit drugs. Though, IMO doing anythign knowingly illegal is a foolish act for anyone to take part in.
Nor did I say that ALL illicit drugs were equally dangerous. Not sure where you came to that conclusion.
And again, I said MANY are stupid, because many become dependant on alchohal and cigarettes in order to relax and relieve stress. Anyone who allows themselves to become dependant on a drug, is, IMO pretty stupid.
No, people do stupid things everyday that are perfectly legal. Go stick your hand on a hot oven. All the cool kids are doing it..
True, but ciggerates aren't "narcotics", they don't impare your judgement. Alchahol does however and if you were anti-drug, you'd probably want to re-instate to prohibition law.

If you're going to legalise alchahol, treat drugs as you would alchahol, maybe even with strcter penalties. Stupid people, will do stupid things, Smart people, know better then to dope themselves up. Regardless of the substance used.
If you're going to ilegalise it, re-instate prohibition. We all saw how bad it was, but the same thing is happening with drugs, we know it's out there, the goverment's just having to move around constantly trying to stop it. HOWEVER, to play devil's advocate here, if you re-instate prohibition. Alchahol is cheaper to produce then narcotics, so it would become cheaper, and thus more people would buy ilegal alchahol then drugs, which would decrease the threat level of drugs indirectly..
