Michael Moore calls snipers "cowards"

http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/19/enter...per-tweet-feat/

Conveniently after the release of American Sniper, too.

What a piece of shit. I hope this guy dies a horrible, fiery death.

Thoughts?

This is Moore's response to the incident:

quote:
"Lots of talk about snipers this weekend (the holiday weekend of a great man, killed by a sniper), so I thought I'd weigh in with what I was raised to believe about snipers. My dad was in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific in World War II. His brother, my uncle, Lawrence Moore, was an Army paratrooper and was killed by a Japanese sniper 70 years ago next month. My dad always said, "Snipers are cowards. They don't believe in a fair fight. Like someone coming up from behind you and coldcocking you. Just isn't right. It's cowardly to shoot a person in the back. Only a coward will shoot someone who can't shoot back."
So I sent out this tweet today:
https://twitter.com/mmflint/status/556914094406926336
And then I sent this:
https://twitter.com/mmflint/status/556988226486169600
But Deadline Hollwood and the Hollywood Reporter turned that into stories about how I don't like Clint Eastwood's new film, "American Sniper." I didn't say a word about "American Sniper" in my tweets.
But here's what Deadline Hollywood posted (note how they changed "snipers" to "shooters" in their headline):
http://deadline.com/…/michael-moore...sniper-oscars…/
Hollywood Reporter has since corrected their story:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/…/...ore-blasts-ame…
If they wanted to know my opinion of "American Sniper" (and I have one), why not ask me?
So here's what I think about "American Sniper":
Awesome performance from Bradley Cooper. One of the best of the year. Great editing. Costumes, hair, makeup superb!
Oh... and too bad Clint gets Vietnam and Iraq confused in his storytelling. And that he has his characters calling Iraqis "savages" throughout the film. But there is also anti-war sentiment expressed in the movie. And there's a touching ending as the main character is remembered after being gunned down by a fellow American vet with PTSD who was given a gun at a gun range back home in Texas -- and then used it to kill the man who called himself the 'America Sniper'.
Also, best movie trailer and TV ads of the year.
Most of us were taught the story of Jesse James and that the scoundrel wasn't James (who was a criminal who killed people) but rather the sniper who shot him in the back. I think most Americans don't think snipers are heroes.
Hopefully not on this weekend when we remember that man in Memphis, Tennessee, who was killed by a sniper's bullet."

Michael Moore gave us Canadian Bacon. After that he hasn't really done anything.

Who cares that some faded Hollywood rabble rouser said some shit on twitter?

Found the "don't believe in a fair fight" in reference to war to be funny.

What's the big deal?

So he was raised to think snipers were cowards. I'd feel the same way if a relative of mine was shot by a sniper.

I would, as well.

I've been kind of scratching my head about the situation as well.

I don't really agree with Moore here, but the hatred being leveled against him for expressing an opinion is ridiculous. We've learned that if you yell loud enough and get the media on your side, you can control the narrative of a story and squelch discussion and debate. It's created a culture of reactionary outbursts aimed more at garnering attention than considering opposing arguments. Social media and internet discussion boards only amplify this trend.

So if snipers are cowards and they are in a protection over watch of the people they are looking out for, what does that make the soldiers on the ground.

I used to like Moore..

You're clearly just a newb who knows nothing about the human slaughtering customs. Quite clearly, we need arbitrary rules of conduct for human slaughter to make ourselves feel better about it.

I found that social media and its netizens are prohibitive/oppressive when it comes to criticisms or opinions that are against the socio-geographically accepted norms or trends.

I don't think sniping is "cowardly."

Real snipers are different from sharpshooters (not that sharpshooters are necessarily cowards either). Real snipers are guys who go out with a day's worth of rations for a three day mission in the desert, who have to drag a hundred pounds of gear (they are helped by their spotter, of course) up a broken fire escape so that they can post up, are often left behind enemy lines, and go to war with the knowledge that because they're so hated, if captured they'll most likely be treated horribly.

A movie makes money relating to past and current events..people go nuts.

Michael Moore makes movies about the same thing but its a different tune. People give him a pass.

Who's going nuts about American Sniper? It's gotten good reviews and has had a positive reception.

The only people I see going nuts I see are those flipping out because Seth Rogan said it reminded him of the propaganda film in Inglorious Basterds, and so, of course, to these people, that means he hates America and doesn't support the troops. Not realizing that by acting in such a way proves his point.

The ones that don't agree, he tells a story from a bias viewpoint. This story actually is true.
