Shinasaryu - Demonslayer (tell me what you think)

Good Intentions

“Mmmmm...” the hideous monster ghoul’s reddish eyes stare into my own, “Your child, is it not?”
Its voice is something like sandpaper scraping against wet concrete, quite annoying. It had taken my son while I was out killing another of its kind. I could sense my son’s fear, and came as quickly as possible, but was not fast enough. Now, it appears the prophecy may become reality, unless I do something about it!
“Its my boy, and you had better release him gently,” I sound confident, but I’m trying hard to keep my knees from knocking together, “And I may spare you a slow death.”
“HA! You can’t kill something that’s already dead,” the creature hisses, moving its own jagged dagger ever more precariously closer to my son.
Another line that lets me know just how unintelligent it is, I carry with me the Shina-Saryu (Sheenâ-Sâroo), the Monster Slayer. I unsheathe it, and charge, hoping to both free my child and slay the beast simultaneously. My skills and reflexes have been honed over the past ten months by a Master Slayer, he called himself Core, but I only referred to him as Master. The blade flashes through the night air, slicing effortlessly through the ghoul’s shoulder joint, that arm falls, as foul, dark liquid sprays out.
I dive towards my son, catching him in the air, holding him tight to my chest, I roll under the creature, between its legs. Spinning and coming to a knee at the same time, just in time to block the downward thrust of the creature’s nasty blade. Quickly shoving the point of my sword into the monster’s chest. More of its dark blood, actual necroplasmic mana, that is used to refill the dead and cause it to become animated once more, spills out. It is of an evil origin, and is being controlled.
Pulling the tip of my fine sword out, I get to my feet, and as the demon slices at me again, I leap upward, and over. I knew it was too slow, but it managed to tear the end of my fine, new brown trench coat. In the air, I twist my body, so that as I go over I can continue to face the creature, but as I am directly over it, I stab my sword downward. A loud thunk is heard as it crunches into its skull. As I fall I simply let the blade pull down as well. As I land, I am already returning the blade to its cover. I turn and hear the two halves fall to dank alley concrete.
“One down, two million more to go,” I say to myself, “I must return my son to a safe place, before anymore show up.”
I leap even higher this time, grabbing the railing I hoist myself over onto the fire escape. New York City is particularly dull this time of the year, well for its inhabitants anyway, it is cold and wet, very few want to be outside in the awful weather. My son is bundled up well enough though, besides he has my blood flowing through his veins he will be fine, as long as I am alive. The monstrous demon creatures appear only during the night, and are at this point trying to create a world of pure darkness, so they can be out at anytime, my son has something to do with it.

Master Core has told me of the prophecy, at the dawn of the new year, 2033, a destiny must be fulfilled, one part is that my son is to be placed on the Beacon of Darkness. This will cause a catastrophic event to take place, the Earth will be blanketed in a veil of darkness, giving the ghouls, and their creator, Shorgnath, the Evil One free reign over the Earth.
However, if on that same day, my son is placed on the Beacon of Light, the demon master and all his little ghoulish demons will be destroyed forever. And that’s where I come in, a nerdy high-schooler who when I finally got out of the house went completely hog wild. Got drunk with my girlfriend, got her pregnant, and here I am now, protecting him and the world from almost certain destruction. And well this is hard to talk about, but ... the girl was killed, exactly two days after Bren had been born. I don’t know for sure, but I think it was the work of Shorgnath. He tried to kill Bren before he was even born! I want to take revenge on him anyway. Master Core found me a few days after, and has been helping take care of me and Bren ever since. He also trained the heck out of me, before he even let me look at Shina-Saryu. He tells me that he has been slaying the monsters since he was a child!
Making my way across the city is a breeze, I can leap from the roof of one building to the next. Master Core trained me nearly all the time while I wore a body suit that was at least twice my body weight and it truly was heavy. But once I took it off, I found I could move incredibly fast, and jump way high, it was awesome.
At about this point, I had traveled nearly four miles, and was making pretty good time. I could sense another creature not too far ahead, but I wanted to get my son to safety first, I could not sense Master, he must have been at the training grounds, which was really far from the city. As I took a leap from a taller building to a shorter one, the darn thing literally got the jump on me. It was leaping up at me, and bearhugged me. The impact could have killed my son, but I was able to move him to my right arm. I could feel the handle of the sword with my left hand, but couldn’t pull it out. I had to get this bastard off of me first! BAM! A quick turn of my head, and I crack the sucker right across the jaw with my hard head. Oh don’t forget we’re heading at a sort of downward angle to the ground. The headbutt stunned the creature and gave me enough time and space to free my left arm. I punch the creep, really hard, that pushes it far enough away, that I can then release Shina-Saryu. It was made to kill the evil creatures, it feeds off the blood of the ghouls, and easily slices from under its rib cage at an angle to the right where the neck and shoulder connect.
The dark liquid pours out, but I am protected from such crud. I flip around, sheathing the blade again, and landing. Before the ghoul’s pieces hit the ground it is already decaying, and in a few minutes nothing will be left of it. The creature had distracted me long enough to allow me to be surrounded by about ten or twelve more of its brethren. I was stupid enough to take as much time as I did to dispose of my initial attacker.
Five were on the ground making their way toward me from my left, three from the right, two appeared out of the alleyway behind me. Two had to have appeared at some point during the next confrontation.
“Damn this,” I cursed myself for not being able to secure my son, “If only Master Core were here.”
I held Bren as close as possible to my right side, gripped Shina-Saryu tightly in my left hand, and as one brave, but stupid fiend charged ahead of the others. I sidestepped the foolish monster, unsheathed the sword and brought down it down in one fluid motion, like a hot knife through butter. Sure the blade could never be broken, and would always hit its mark, but if I become cocky or reckless, I would be letting my son and the whole world down. As two charge from behind, I step into the closest one, the sword’s pointing in its direction. Then I burst forward, the sword’s dull side lays against my forearm. I dash at the other four that were originally coming at me from my right. The nearest one tries to stop my onslaught with outstretched claws... fat chance! Shina-Saryu stops for no mindless beast of burden. The pieces of that creature fall, I immediately turn my attention to the one that was now nearly on top of me. I make a leaping cartwheel to my right, and had not even anticipated that another had been coming at me from the opposite direction. They collide, crushing each other’s skulls and the last one that was with that group leaps over them, I was beginning to regain my balance, and composure, stopping myself from laughing at the absurdity of my attackers.
“Come foul beast, meet your death,” I taunt the attacking fiend, throwing it into a frenzy, it was already sloppy to begin with, so as I perform a spinning dragon sweep, it is totally taken off guard, but before it can hit the ground Shina-Saryu is raising up, popping its head off like a cork, then I am tackled from the right.
If Bren had been even close to being hurt, I would have fought with even more ferocity that ever. But thank my lucky stars, it was Master Core, he had pushed me and Bren out of danger. It seems that after so many of its kind are killed before it, they become stronger, smarter, and deadlier.

One had been able to form a double-bladed axe out of one of its clawed hands.
“I will take Bren to the Sanctuary, finish them, and meet me there,” Master Core looks into my eyes, his own are still as full of youth and vigor as ever, “I have some important news, but hurry!”
Master Core is off in a flash, and the attention of my attackers is directed towards him as well. He makes the leap to the tallest building, but I will not allow such demons to follow so easily. The one that had formed its new weapon leapt up after Master, but before it could even get close. Shina-Saryu wanted to taste the sweet nectar of its victory once more. As I slice through the horrendous beast, I continue upward, through the space between the halves now created. The halves fall as before, and I turn to see two more continuing the chase, as they flee downtown, toward Sanctuary.
I bound from the wall to the building across the street, as my feet touch the surface of the brick, I am already turning, and in half leap. Jumping towards my target, I expect a quick kill, but as I said earlier the ‘monkeys’ learn. It spins facing me, its claws tear into what was now left of my coat after the earlier tussles. I barrel roll with the swipe, landing in a crouching position, I continue the momentum of my spin and kick at its legs, that move upward faster than my leg.
“Fine! Have it your way,” I say angrily, “NO MERCY!”

Rage fills my body, as I charge upward, slicing as the same time, however I had not finished, bringing the blade downward cutting yet again. I knew the other was coming toward me, however, they still were not as smart as a well trained slayer, especially with the Bane of Evil, the Shina-Saryu at my possession. I bring my feet down, my boots gripping the asphalt, I hold the blade out at its head level. Like a melon being cut into, the demon’s head slides right onto the blade.

If any are watching, I want them to know that from this point on, they do not get it easy. Removing my second blade, a dagger, which is hidden, and I know that with my speed they can only see the flash of light. The body now decomposing, and head beginning to, I sling the blade behind me, the head flies off into the darkness.
“Come on you freaks!” I yell valiantly, “I’ll take you all on...!”
As I realize that none are around, it hits me that the sun is beginning to rise. In a sense I am hopeful, that me, my son, Master and this side of the world has made it through another night. And another side of me is disappointed, which is shown as I lower Shina-Saryu, and slowly return it to its sheath. I turn, and what is left of the dead ghouls is consumed by fire, and the ashes are whisked away by winds of the city.
Like any other day, people are waking, getting ready for their jobs, those people and their jobs are all still here, thanks to me and Core, as well the long line of monster slayers. Shina-Saryu is one of many mystical weapons used to defeat evil and all its minions. Another my kind is on in the next time zone, and a couple more spread through the world, they make sure the world is safe, and pretty soon it will come to an end.
They all know of my son, and the part he plays. I am only a few more blocks from Sanctuary, the building appears to be dilapidated from the outside. But that is for cover from both demon world and the human world both of which are fully capable of destroying the sacred building.
It is a place were the wounded come to heal, both physically and emotionally. A young girl stumbled by the other night, I thought a mite, mites are comparable to pets of the ghouls. I thought it was going to attack, but as she was in the protective field of Sanctuary, she was saved, if she had not gotten to the specific space in time, I would have saved her. I appeared to her, and brought her in, she was attractive as most young females are. She of course was inquisitive, but I told her I was only passing through, and that she would be fine, if she stayed until morning. I then left to go on my daily route through the city. As dawn broke, I returned, and she had left a note.

It read:
“Dear Mister, Thank U Very Much! i thought for sure the cops were gonna come beating down, but U must know ‘em or whatever. U fixed me up pretty good, so i left U my last bit of money, its all I could do to repay U for keeping me outta the hot seat.
Thanks again,
Kris!”
It was written like a girl had written it, but something just continued to nag at me about it. Such as why would she leave me the last bit of money she had, but then it came to me that she probably would sell her body, and that would make it easy enough to get some quick cash. It caused me quite a bit of anguish, how ungrateful the people of the city are at times. Such as the girl, she had been running from cops, and I kept her from getting caught... A great hero I am, but it could have been worse, the mite could have bit her ankle, allowing the ghoul that it belonged to appear, and finish her off.
I suppose that was the blessing of Sanctuary, and its curse. It can keep any human safe, good, evil, indifferent, that is its purpose, and of course most humans know nothing of the protective power Sanctuary has. However, the select few who have discovered the war between humans and demons know what it is and often stop by.
“Yo, yo, yo,” the accent is purely Brooklyn, “James, my dawg, what’s up?!”
“Hello Darien,” I reply, “How’s it going down in your crib?”
“Man, what the hell did you just say?” Darien blurts out, “Man, don’t be tryin’ to talk ebonics to me, I will straight up kick yo’ ass.”
I try to soak it in, but I simply say, “Do you wanna take this outside?”
Darien cracks a laugh, “Oh no dawg! HAHA! You know I’m just playin’!”
“Yeah, well, beer’s in the fridge,” I give my usual speech, “Just don’t have too many honeys over this time. Alright dog?”
“HAHA! You know me man, I’ll keep it straight up in here,” Darien is a good kid, he stays away from the hard drugs and such, those things are demons in themselves. And the ones who put the drugs out for the humans to consume, truly are demons, they use them to keep a lot of the humans loyal to them. It sickens me every time I see another succumb to the drug, that is why I try hard to keep those that happen upon Sanctuary as informed as possible.
“Good, see you at dawn,” that is how I usually tell anyone staying, goodbye. I see a few more familiars as I walk outside, and pass out of the safety of Sanctuary. Sometimes I wish I could tell the whole world at one time of the Sanctuaries scattered across the globe, but it would be impossible to house them all. That is why it is key to keep the Slayers’ profiles as low as possible, all who know me, save Master Core, only know me by first name, and they know of the war between humans and demons. And they also know that if everyone knew, then they could very well jump start the Final Ascension.
Sunset. The hunt begins again, more demonic activity has been occurring lately, or that’s the story from the other Slayers anyway. My city is just as drab as usual, a few meandering demons out to stir up trouble, know of my location. Those few try, and try as they may, to get the jump on me, but I am always ready to unleash Shinasaryu. The first leaps off the nearest corner of the building behind me, another, a drug dealer, rips its human disguise off, and runs at me from the nearby alleyway. A third scurries out of the sewer.
“Give it up Slayer, our Master has already taken the last child necessary for the Ritual!” The drug dealer says as he continues he dash.
The bug like one that came out of the sewer continues, “Your son is the final component, and he is being hunted as we speak!”
I finally reply, “My son is safe, so long as I breath, and Shinasaryu is in my possession!”
The one from behind me, “That is why we have come to take it away!”
A grin crawls across my face, “You want it, come and get it!”
I know exactly how close the one behind me is, “Here, catch!”
I spin and release the sword, Shinasaryu slices the air, almost literally, finally as it sinks into the demon’s flesh, it screams in pain. I run at the screaming demon, grabbing the blade, twisting it inside, the pitch of the shriek increases, I ignore it. Pulling the blade leaves a gaping hole in the demon’s side, and it melts into decaying bones as I spin to meet the next two. They had both leapt into the air, and were coming down directly on top of me. A tricky maneuver to get out of, but no where near impossible. Especially since I had already done it once before, leaping up at them, I lean more to the bug-like one on the left, dodging its attack, my blade cuts through its midsection. I spin in the air, and catch the other in the same place. As the two foul creatures descend they decompose into ashes, which is blown away and nothing is left to hit the ground.
Suddenly, I sense Master Core, he is in pain! This was merely a distraction, the real action is going on elsewhere! I really don’t remember running all the way to the training site, but as I drew closer, I began to feel a great dread come over me. It truly began as I saw smoke billowing into the sky. Then this sickness came over me and knotted up my stomach, a lump was shoved into my throat. And the realization of what had happened kicked me, it hit so hard, that doubled over and vomited. I didn’t vomit much, because I don’t eat much, I don’t need to, but the fact was, Master was dead. Impaled on a cross, his body broken, but he was still alive. His blood still fresh dripped onto the dry ground. The training center, where I had spent my childhood, was burnt to the ground.
“James,” Master says weakly, “Listen carefully, I don’t have much time. The Evil One came, he was able to go through the barrier, and he took Bren. There is still hope, the Ritual will take 72 hours, as you know, and during that time, the Evil One will be most vulnerable.”
“Where?” I continue to stare at the burning ashes of the house.
“To Szchlizenkel, in Germany...” The Master looks down at me.
“What am I to do?”
“The Slayers in that area are already preparing, but you must go, save your son, and Slay the Evil One, or all will be lost.”
“I understand, Master, but how am I to reach Germany in three days?”
“You will fly,” He says it almost matter-of-factly.
“Sir, with all due respect...” I become flabbergasted, many thoughts ran through my head in those brief seconds.
“You can fly, you have earned that power,” Master looks deep into my soul, “You, James of all the Slayers have the power to end this, and give salvation back to the humans, you must be strong...”
I could tell he was about to die, I held the tears back as long as I could, anger, fear, doubt, hatred, all of it nearly consumed me. I trembled as I sank to my knees and Shinasaryu fell from my hand. Abruptly twenty, maybe thirty demons appeared, it was so fast that, for the first time, I was surprised, I had also been distracted, and thus did not sense their approach. I laid in a few good licks, kicking one’s jaw nearly off. I tried to take their legs out, at least ten of them wouldn’t be able to walk again. It seemed like hours, the fighting, one had been able to form some large bludgeon weapon, and when it hit me on my left side, I slid in the dirt for at least ten feet. It was at that point I knew it was do or die time, I fell into some blind rage, and don’t remember much after that.
