The only Warlock/Magus incarnations that should take the majority from Strange are those with the IG. Magus wasn't any more powerful than normal Adam otherwise (they both have some victories over the other).
It's all in the eyes of the writer. Magus still = Warlock, regardless of the incarnation. Adam himself has punked Thanos once or twice (slaps him around, turns him to stone, not to mention owning a series of clones).
I agree that the Magus you're referring to has a few better feats, but it's not as though normal Warlock is helpless against him.
Yeah, I have. I don't remember that line, but I'm not totally disagreeing with you here. That version of Magus has some sick feats, but it's not beyond the high-end feats of Adam himself.
And, more importantly for our battle, it's not beyond Dr. Strange's high-end or even middle-end feats.
...besides, the battle itself says Warlock, not Magus...when I said any incarnation of Warlock I wasn't really thinking about Magus (though my opinion still holds).
Right. I was talking mostly of AW, and I'm not sure how Magus got into the discussion. But yes, there's a big difference.
...
Anyway, I'd be interested to actually see this fight. Adam being "beyond the realm of chaos and order" might make him immune to certain spells, and he also has an intrinsic knowledge of Strange from their soul-meld in the IG story arc.
...it wouldn't be a Strange curbstomp, but I still can't see Adam winning.
Doesn’t Warlock know all of Strange’s spells up to the IG saga? If that’s the case, Strange doesn’t really have a huge advantage knowledge-wise (except perhaps catastrophe magic). Warlock’s an adept magic user, although magic’s not his primary combat tool, as it is for Strange. While Strange has an advantage skill wise with magic, Warlock has the advantage in diversity of attack.
Of course, the biggest factor in this fight is WHEN Warlock is in his development, ie, how fragile his psyche is at the time. Has he been idle for a while, or is he fresh from saving the universe from cosmic Armageddon? His reactions, state of mind, and his use of powers are different in each situation.
I’m not sure that Warlock takes a majority, but he could certainly more than hold his own against Strange. Chances are he wouldn’t even try to confront him directly—he’d out think him. And if anyone can out think Strange, it would be Warlock.
That's kind of a rumor. Yes, they soul-linked, so it's understood that Warlock has knowledge of Strange's spell-casting. But he's never actually cast any of Strange's spells.
And when has he ever cast a spell? His inherent powers, even soul-stuff, aren't magic. I'd be interested to be proved wrong, but I've read a ton of AW stuff and never once seen him cast a spell.
And it's a 2-way street, because via the soul-link Strange leanred everything there is to know about Warlock....and for a man of Strange's abilities, that would be hard for AW to overcome.
