Mephisto seems to always want the souls of superheroes. If he wanted to kill the various teams who've entered his realm like the X-Men and Avengers and so forth, then he would've done so long ago, but to a devil like him, souls are a more valuable commodity, and pure souls from superheroes are even more valuable. He pretty much stated to Silver Surfer that he has always feigned defeat in their encounters. In his own realm and actually seeking to kill a superhero in his realm, he could easily do it without the slightest trouble, even if hes the World War Hulk.
