Awesome Graphic Novels

What are some awesome graphic novels out there, (no batman) because I hate buying individual comics, it takes too long for anything to happen, so I like to get 1 story, 1 big book. So what are some good ones? (no batman please)

Hmm I dunno if this qualifies becaus eis a comic book but they have them collected in volumes, Y-The Last Man has a pretty good and solid story. I always heard about it but never put too much mind to it until I saw issue #1 posted in a news site and since I was working and bored and I was hooked.

By Alan Moore:

V For Vendetta
Watchmen
League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen parts 1 and 2
From Hell

By Frank Miller:

Sin City- The Hard Goodbye, That Yellow Bastard, A Dame To Kill For, Big Fat Kill
Daredevil Born Again
Daredevil Visionaries 2 and 3
Ronin

They're my two favourite writers of all time. For other good graphic novels, check out stuff like:

House of M
Secret Wars
Kingdome Come
The Ultimates
Secret Wars
Crisis on Infinite Earths

And just to be a dick, I'll add a load of good Batman stuff too.

Knightfall 1, 2, and 3
Dark Knight Returns
Hush 1 and 2
Year One
Long Halloween
The Killing Joke
Arkham Asylum

Why didn't you want any Batman anyway? He has loads of great classics.

I hear Batman: Manbat is also very good and check out Superman: Speeding Bullets (it's an Elseworldds story focusing on Kal El being adopted by the Waynes).

I'd recomend Morissons Invisibles/Marvel Boy/The entire JLA collection, JMS Supreme Power Collection,
Warren Ellis Transmepollitan, Planetary, and The Authority.
Mark Millers Powers and Wolverines Enemy of the State are brilliant, and to a lesser extent i'd recommend his Authority work.
Id also reccomend Garth Ennis Preacher.

For D.C. :

I'd recommend:

Kingdom Come (The greatest D.C. story)
The Stories of Alan Moore (The Superman and Batman work is sublime)
Day Vengeance Trade
Morisson and Waids JLA runs
Most of the Geoff Johns JSA is preety good
As is Waids Flash
Birds of prey is also highly recommended (Although i haven't read it)
Green Lantern Re-birth is also amazing
And Identity Crisis is the best D.C. book since Kingdom Come
And of course theres Frank Millers; The Dark Knight Returns

For Marvel :

Any of the Bendis Dare Devil work is amazing, as is his Powers collection
The 1st Runaways trades are out at the moment, as are Heinbergs Young Avengers trades (Much better than the other Avengers book)
Mark Millers Wolverines, enemy of the state is one of the best Wolverine books
Wheeldons Astonoshing X-men is good, although i prefer Morissons New X-men
Invincible is very popular, although i havn't got round to reading it.
Most of the Ultimate work is generally good, although id stay away from the FF4, and Darevdevil stuff.
If you want something a bit more classic, i recomend both the Infinity Gauntlet and The Secret Wars.

smile
