all quality music comes from britain?

I've started wondering, why is so much good music coming from the british isles? I found that most of the latest CD's I've bought lately are british. latest one is The Streets- Original Pirate Material, that's brilliant.

Jeepers Mah, I agree that we supply a lot of quality music but that CD you've bought is pants! (IMO)

Go buy a Charlatans or a Stone Roses album, thats Brit music at its very best. smokin'

If us Europeans were to generalize then we could say that all American stuff is either rap (the "C" is silent), heavy rock or country. Cus thats all the yank stuff we get to hear.

I'm not defending our piss-poor pop thats seems to have found it's way over to you guys but you lot don't really get the chance to hear all the stuff that comes out over here. If you like Oasis style indie music then you've only heard about 1% of the great stuf thats released over here.

Go buy one of the following bands albums and tell me if I'm wrong, I'll even go out and purchase one of your suggestions that I may not have otherwise bought to make things fair.....

Joy Division
The Happy Mondays
Ocean Colour Scene
Leftfield
The Charlatans
Supergrass
Paul Weller
The Jam
Massive Attack
Depeche Mode
Mansun
Portishead
Travis
Manic Street Preachers
Ian Brown
The Seahorses
The Smiths
The Stereophonics
The Stone Roses
Kula Shaker
Super Furry Animals

I can't think of any more right now but any of these will bring balance to your record collection.

Hehehe..comments must have gotten under someone's skin. Truth be told there's alot of good stuff out there but I couldn't tell you if it's American, British, Australian (though doubtful, seems they only claim Kylie Miqonque) ..or whatever. To be honest I can't even name off bands I like..I know them only by their songs and can only remember their names while I'm actually listening to their music.

I've got a feeling Texas and Finti may have an imput into this thread. Tex with weird she-devil music and Finti with 80's pap. roll eyes (sarcastic)

I wouldn't call any of those overated, except maybe the Smiths, but then they were recently voted the most influential band in history. I like Rock Finti, but its a little boring at the moment and needs an injection of youth to make it cool again. I bought the Linkin Park CD when it came out and still think thats really good but there has been quite a few copycats of that already which makes me think its all boring again.

At the moment I'm listening to The White Stripes and the Strokes mostly but I think both of those will be playing second fiddle when I finally get hold of some Cooper Temple Clause stuff. They sound like Oasis when Oasis were at thier best. smokin'
