Are humans animals?

This sounds like a pretty basic question. But there are those that seem to think different.

quote:
it's quite apparent to anyone who has studied various species within the animal kingdom, sexual behavior in animals, can not be equated to sexual behavior in humans.

A black widow eats her mate after she becomes impregnated....

Various species of of animals will consume some of their young after they have been born...

Dogs will from time to time attempt to eat their own defication..

Are we to equate these behaviors to that of humans...again bud..I don't think so.

From a Christian perspective however, God obviously didn't "create" these" types of behaviors..however..he does allow for them to happen. All of the "killing" and "unnatural" behavior that one can see present within the world today is a result of "sin."

quote:

As I stated before, we are not animals..despite what you have been indoctrinated with in your highschool/university science class, human beings are distinctly different from the animal kingdom. If we were animals, then we wouldn't possess those unique characteristics such as rationalization, creativity, love, compassion, mercy..among many other unique traits. If you really believe yourself to be an animal, then I truly pity you my friend.

Discuss.

Of course humans are, you can even witness the most primal of animal acts in everyday life.

"Fighting" over females, trying to establish dominance, providing for family, courting etc.

we are animals with a highly evolved sense of conscience, which however redeeming, also causes us to have dellusions that we are actually not animals, and are in fact the center of the universe and the reason for all existance.

In line with PVS, off course we are animals, we are merely 'blessed' with more evolved brains and mental capabilities and emotions. The human characteristics that come with this do not separate us from the animal world, it only specifies our species.

It depends on what you define 'animal' to mean....

If you define animal to mean an organism with organs, muscles, brain, needing to eat, breathe and reproduce etc etc....

Then sure we are... smile

But if you're asking are we 'merely' animals... then I'd say no.

I think we're better than every other animal on this planet. We're blessed with intelligence and creativity that nothing else in the world has exhibited.

I believe that we were created alongside the animals but also above them.

I believe that animals are on this planet not only to provide for us with clothing and food, but also to teach us compassion and responsibility by looking after them as well as piqueing our natural and healthy curiousity about the world.

Animals are great. They're great as pets. Great to study and look after. Great even to eat.

But I think humans are superior to animals. smile

I disagree...then again I don't think that we are superior to stones so well, what do I know.

Superior?

Most Animals have adapted to live completely in synch with their environment.
Human Animals cannot.

There are thousands of animals that are proportionately (if not actually) stronger, faster, stealthier and longer lived than human animals.

There are many animals that can fly under their own power.
Human animals cannot.

There are species of animals that exhibit emotions, compassion and cognetive/problem solving abilities. Although ours is much further advanced, they are not abilities unique to us, just abilities that we excel at.

Many of the world's animals are superior to us in many ways.
