Throughout Sam's life, he always wondered why his mom and dad were so easy on him. Whether it was sports, school, career choices, or picking on his little brother Keith, Sam always got away with everything. Because of it, he decided to drop out of college and take a dead beat job, wasting most of his time playing video games and wishing he could ask his coworker Andi out. However, everything changes in Sam's life once he turns 21 and finds out the reason his parents let him get over was because they sold his soul to the devil before he was born.
Satan explains to Sam that he must serve as his bounty hunter, tracking down souls that have escaped from Hell. Initially, Sam refuses to accept his fate but he realizes the grave consequences of breaking a deal with the devil. He is armed with various vessels to collect the escapees. Sam finds that the work is dangerous and frightening even with the goof ball help of his friends and fellow slackers Sock and Ben, and Sock's former girlfriend, Josie. As bizarre as his life becomes, Sam feels good about his new found "missions", removing evil souls from the world and sending them back to where they belong. Along with his friends and his vessel of the week, Sam prepares to face his destiny as the "reaper".

Has anyone here seen the pilot episode of the show yet? I was able to procure ( ) a copy of the original pilot which will never air. This version has Nikki Reed in the starring role of Andi, personally I didn't find her too great in the role, she just didn't feel the part. Which is probably why they recast the role to Missy Peregrym. Not to mention, IMO, Missy is much easier on the eyes.
Without giving too much away, Tyler Labine as Sock steals the show. He gets all the best jokes and he's the best friend Sam could ever ask for.
The show is hilarious and has a good amount of action considering it's a dramedy (drama/comedy), which really surprised me. This was directed by Mr. Clerks himself, Kevin Smith, who isn't known for big action sequences. It works though. However, the special effects could be better, I'm willing to look past them for the simple fact of it being a pilot episode for the CW.
All in all I would give the pilot a solid 9 out of 10, it thoroughly entertained me. Check it out when the pilot airs Sept. 25th.
I like Nikki Reed, though Missy sure is hotter, I hope she could at least make an appearance in Heroes next season.
I'm really looking forward to watching this show, it sure looks good, and now that Tattoo gives such a good review of the pilot, I'm confident it could do big in its freshman season
any chance on telling us how we could "procure" a copy too?
EDIT: Nevermind, found one

Yeah, not actually allowed to tell about how to go about doing that stuff on KMC. Could get Raz in trouble for allowing bad file sharing to go on. Glad you found one.
Let us know what you think of it after you've seen it.

This show looks HILARIOUS!!! I can't wait to see it and am jealous of those with "procurement" measures
I also found this cool video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmV9Fcjvt6c
I'm glad Missy made the final cut- big fan of hers from Heroes...
took my sweet time, but I was finally able to see it.
Great Show.
I was gonna give an elaborate review (I wrote it actually) , but I accidentally hit the refresh button and it' all when to hell, so I'm just gonna say this:
you should not miss this show when it premieres, It is good.
it is funny, but not stupid. it's entertaining. the situation may be far fetched, but it's a show that's really down to earth, without fantasizing too much
Sock it's a great character, and he's sure to keep you laughing
I cant see what good it's to change Andi, she doesn't seen to work other than as a love interest, I hope that changes in following episodes
FX are good, they could be better but work great for a TV show. The firefighter on fire looks awesome
and there's action too, Smith gets away with Jedi Powers again, though this time they actually work (both in the story and onscreen)
8 out of 10 for me
looking forward to see what's change from this pilot and what will air sept 25 ( other than having Missy in it of course)
If maintain well, this show could last a long time on TV... or at least 3 seasons

Don't you just HATE when that happens???!!
Well, anyway, the breakdown is much appreciated! I also found this review and I think it elaborates on some of your points:
Eugh, watched the reshoot of the pilot...all the scenes they had to redo with Missy Peregrym made me cringe. Not because of Missy, I like her take on the character better than Nikki Reed, but because of continuity errors.
The character of Sam has a slight mustache in the new scenes, and these scenes interweave with the old scenes so he's got a mustache, then he doesn't, then he does, then he doesn't.
This should be a one time only mistake, I hope the second episode does a bit better. The show is still awesome, but that really stood out to me.
many people compared it to Dead like Me, and I cant see why...
other than the name, there's no actual Reaper in the show, unlike "Dead like me", he is a bounty hunter, not a Reaper... not to mention that even though Dead like Me was a good funny show, it was dramatic and depressing, whereas Reaper tries, and is Funny all through out the episode
haven't seen the new pilot,... but continuity errors would certainly bother me....
let just hope the show stays fun and fresh in its first season

I watched it last night. I thought it was pretty good. I thought it was only gonna be half hour episodes. I like the fact that in every episode he might use diffrent things to capture the demons. The big guy is pretty funny. I'll watch it for a couple more episodes.

I find that this show is really entertaining. I like how they have Tyler Labine as the goofy, happy-go-lucky side-kick. With out him, this show would be a lousy dramady.

In the mean time, I never DID see that anime where I unintentionally got my name from. Is it any good
Ray Wise is wasting his talent. He steals each scene he is in. Woody's bro Brett should've taken better acting lessons. Next weeks show should improve on some things.
I'm really happy with the direction the show is going. I can't imagine Nikki Reed as Andi anymore. Her version of Andi was so uptight and prissy. With Missy Peregrym she seems like a fun loving chick who any guy would love to be with. This past episode when she pulled that prank on Ted, priceless.
