Saw the original in the theater many many years ago. I remember loving it (but I was 10 years old). I think a remake could be pretty good with today's technology. We definitely need more fantasy movies (unless they are like Eragon - then we don't).

I agree about the owl, seriously annoyed me in the original. It will be interesting to see how realistic they can make Pegasus and Medusa look. Looking forward to this one.
