Not opposed to the idea that Mangog could win (don't know much about him, tbh.) I'd just need to see some solid proof that he's superior to Validus--a fella who routinely tooled pre-crisis Superboy. Heh, for what it's worth, Superboy (the kid who casually towed numerous planets behind him) surmised that Validus was a DOZEN times stronger than him.
In my case, I really didn't have enough background knowledge of Validus to really give too much input.
Although I have always been a "Mangog-Man", what I do know of Validus shows that he is another Skyfather+ level being, squashed into a physical, brawling, "mega-brick".
I had wanted to see what DC experts thought about the match.
I think that the "indestructible dome" would be necessary.
Plus, they have similar hands and feet! extra bonus detail!

Well if they don't BFR one another into another galaxy, then it would end up a long long stalemate. Unless one of them eventually tires out, I don't see either of them able to hurt the other.
Val also possessed energy attacks (mental lightning) so potent that, even in a drastically weakened state, he was able to fend off a Sun Eater: (please log in to view the image)
And back then, Sun Eaters were powerful enough to destroy entire galaxies--in fact, the one Val fought off above did destroy a galaxy.
There are more scans of Val's awesomeness that I could post, but I'll refrain.... Oh and just so you know, I'm not really trying to make an argument for Val where this thread is concerned--I just rarely have a chance to post those scans, so it's nice to be able to.
For Validus, the Sun Eater battle and the comment by Superboy are pretty strong. I see the feat where he punched Superboy out of the solar system, is used a lot on the boards as well.
The feats Mangog performed in Asgard, dishing out and taking punishment in a place where the density of EVERYTHING is 3 times that of normal space, are pretty strong as well.
I guess it might come down to who is more durable. Who has been injured more. Actual injuries from combat.
^ The most damage I've seen PC Val take from a single opponent, was during his first battle with a Sun Eater: (please log in to view the image) "Planet-splitting force-bolts lash out... Only to be met with the equally devastating power of Validus."
But despite the damage he took above, Val was still powerful enough to save Projectra from the Sun Eater a few pages later: (please log in to view the image)
As for the damage Val has tanked: punches from pre-crisis Ultraman, Mon-El, and Superboy have proven entirely ineffective.
1. He has been shown to be literally unaffected by Thor's most powerful blows, repeatedly, as well as Asgard's most powerful military armaments. Also, Odin has stated over and over, that he cannot even hurt Mangog and Mangog is invincible.
of course, there are arguments that can be made against this. but...
2. It has been shown that Mangog continued to increase in strength and power as his battles continued, due to him feeding off of negative emotions and the violence being done to him, "growing more powerful with every blow", was the statement made in at least one book.
Also, I thought you guys would like this image I found online:

There are a few other Mangog/Validus threads on the boards right now. In one of them, I think somebody might have posted the scan you are talking about.
I think.
