The built-in redundancy claim is silly. iPhones in particularly work longer well than other smartphones. And the physical facts about battery degradation, and the current fact about Moore's law regarding processor technology isn't the same as actively trying to make your products expire.

I replace them because I enjoy to have the newest product. I sell my older phones for a good price and the future owners get to enjoy them for longer.

On a side note, I've had an iPod nano for about five or six years and it's still running strong. So yeah, the battery life on these things are pretty solid.

I suppose, I guess they'd prefer if I didn't sell my old devices though.

Yeah, there's not that much improvement in iPod Nanos. Whether you have one from 6 years ago or a brand new one they basically do the same thing.

iPhone 7 will be introduced next September. no expression

I've read Apple has a habit of slowing down their older phones every update. You'll have to eventually upgrade your 5S to a 6/6s when iOS 10 comes out.

The touch screen is the main difference – it took me a long time to adjust to those things on phones, but I outright to refuse to accept one on my MP3 player. It's unnecessary. Etc.

Oh man it is a lot better, much faster in every way. You'll definitely notice the upgrade. At the time I didn't think having a bigger screen would be a big deal, but it's really awesome, I couldn't go back to the smaller screen now. Except for that, the camera is also considerably better, I don't know if you care about that.
