They keep going to back to properly tie the movies together instead of throwing you a sequel that has nothing to do with its previous movie. There shouldnt of been a sequal to most horror or slasher movies, the exorcist for sure didnt need any. Saw took away the lame, cheesy, bad rep that Horror has gotten for so long.

To clarify...that up there was the comment I was referring to...because before he posted this one I had said that not all Anti-SAW-ers are hostile...and I offered to kiss the boo boo on his bruised ego.

Well it sure was a short holiday because Saw,its imitations AND the remakes that have been greenlit because of the popularity of SAW have left us in a worst state than ever.
In a worse state than ever? Please tell me a horror genre film thats done half as well? Unless you want to count the gross amounts of FvJ which doesnt even fall under a horror category because its a slasher, nothing has come close. Like I said I want to see the horror genre do well and get some respect, Saw was able to do that where the vast majority have failed.
because of the popularity of Saw with the average cinema goer studios are knocking out horror "spectacles" they are making films that are just there to gross people out and make em jump....which aint hard with that audience...ive been in their prescence.
Studios are making horror films for people who dont usually like horror flicks
they are making movies for kids who just want to be grossed out with fx and thats what the SAW pics are.
as much as i dislike FvJ those two are not slashers but supernatural characters because they are undead MONSTERS..fantastical characters.
They are making movies with fx for kids who want to be grossed out...I think we may need to re evaluate the horror genre and what falls under it. Exactly that gore and trying to make people jump, its what horror has always been.
FvJ doesnt fall under horror because they are supernatural characters, then I guess the same could be said for the Exorcist? Or anyone else who is posessed, undead, etc.
Saw finally took Horror away from the cheesy, indie, low budget rep its always had and actually got it some credit. I never said every horror movie that came out was great, sadly the majority are low budget, cheesy, and get NO respect. Saw was the first to really change that, hence why I said as far as Horror goes, it was a revolution.
Im saying Freddie and Jason ARE horror because they are supernatural you totally mis read me there pal.
Im sorry but many a low budget indie horror flick has more going for it than SAW ever will.
Evil Dead was a low budget indie flick and give me any mid 80s cheesy indie straight to video gem like Brain Damage or Basket Case over Saw any day.
10 years ago i used to think Lucio Fulci pics were cheesy low budget gore filled ok pics...over time ive grown to realise they are CLASSICS.
Big budget Horror movies on the whole SUCK nowadays
I aint got time to get into this as ive got to nip out but Saw is in part due to the quality of Horror flicks that reach the big screen being a big pile of crap for the lowest common denominator.
AND Horror films are not about the jumps and the gore.......its about the STORY too which many a SAW fan on here seems to miss as ive had to point out every time ive replied to one.
wow looks like saw really does suck no matter how much people defend it.
If your mentality is above that of an 16 you probably wont like saw because it is made for kids under 16.
And yes I would classify this as a thriller like Seven is.....but seven was a good thriller and this was a bad thriller I'd rather watch Michal Jackson’s thriller than this crap. This is thriller thriller of the night bla blab la bla bla
If you want to imply that Freddy and Jason are horror because they are supernatural, then you should prehaps state your posts a bit more clearly. A low budget, indie horror flick has more going for it than Saw ever will? Would these be the same indine horror flicks that any depth on their characters, poor acting, cheesy film quality, and the lack of any back story to them at all? If you wanted to stand up for indie horror, trying to say that is isnt about the jumps and gore and is about the STORY, you have a poor arguement on your hands. I would like you to name me ONE 80's Indie horror flick that the story is put together as well, stays consistant, and follows throughly through three sequels. Point being, you can't. Don't attempt to shove a story arguement down my throat when every movie you've pointed out is horribly inconsistant and the "story" fails to have any back depth to it.
Evil Dead falls under the same category no depth to their characters, poor acting, cheesy film quality, and the lack of a good consistant story, yet I own all three. Same goes for Freddy or Jason, I own them all, but it doesn't change the fact the acting is for the most part horrible, the films are cheesy, low budget, and the story is inconsistant.
Just picked up a Dario Argento film the other day, JENIFER, same applied to it as the others, the acting sucked, no back story on ANY of the character, numerous plot holes, horrible dialogue, etc. Still enjoyed the movie, but thats not the point here.
I appreciate the classic cheesy films as much as anyone, but I also realize that in comparision Saw has anything up to date beat in acting, film quality, story consistancy, etc. It has nothing to do with disliking the indie side or horror or defending Saw, it has to do with the obvious.
Quote - as much as i dislike FvJ those two are not slashers but supernatural characters because they are undead MONSTERS..fantastical characters.
it might be on the Yoda tip but its clear
As is my comment about horror pics not being just about gore and jumps but story too......see i said TOO meaning ALL three
Not seen MASTERS OF HORROR so i cant comment on JENNIFER
its a tv movie though about an hour long tho aint it with cuts?
Your right i cant name any 80s indie horror movie with 3 sequels that were consistant
But YOU think SAW is consistant while i think 1,2 and 3 are equally crap so were onto a non starter there.
I can name a whole bunch of great Horror movies with crap sequels unfortunatly.........99% of them.
Re Animator was an indie with one crap sequel out of 3 but they didnt have the backing, advertising and budget of SAW so they ended up with a pile of crap to finish that series with when they shouldve just bowed out with BRIDE....most low budget directors want to make worthy sequels with good production values but they just dont have the money.
