a cinema, not what is commonly said for going to the cinema. Secondly when I lived and/or visited the US "going to the theatre" was just as common, if not more, so it may be regionally different (like your fellow American thread starter's usage indicates). The part about it often being called "movie theatre" is of course true, but that's additional information I didn't go into, not a correction of my explanation.__________________
