That's... not what I asked. You don't need to explain why the idea that "reason is the enemy" is sad in general. I'm asking why do you find it sad in this particular case where a church sigh says that "reason is the enemy of faith". In context of organized religion most people would find it hillarious (because it's true and it's weird that they admit it). Hence the question.

It pretty much means that in order to remain religious you have to give up reason. I just don't see how it's dark, the fact that churches admit it is just funny to me. But nvrmnd.

Yeah, I get it. It is funny. I guess because I live in the Southern US it's sort of depressing because I see the reality of it on a daily basis. In other words it would be funnier if it wasn't so commonly practiced.
