I agree with Dim. I find it very depressing. Was watching a program on Nova (on public television) last night about how they analyzed exactly how the towers collapsed with digital imaging of their superstructure and how they were affected by the impact of the planes because of different direction and what floor was hit and all that stuff.

I was practically in tears until the end of the program. It was like it happened yesterday. The video of the second plane coming in is absolutely the worst. Just the worst part of it. Its like....there it is again and there is nothing you can do to stop it. sad sad

But I agree with Dim about the merchandise. Then again, that's the US: always find a way to make a buck.

Unfortunately yes...some people are going to have very bad karma.

Hopefully To understands why you chose to close the other threads....there's a point where you can mourn but watching and talking about every gory rehashed detail on TV makes things harder. I for one am not going to watch anything about it or listen to the radio...I just can't handle anymore of it.

They listed everyone who was killed and showed their picture. I watched it for 15 minutes, completely numb.

Saw the whole American commemeration; must say it shows a lot of cultural differences between the UK and the US.

Just watched a bit of BBC coverage and I couldn't bring myself to watch anymore. I find the whole event too shocking and it makes me feel bad.

My mom said that we would not turn on the news today. I'm very happy with that decision. I'm too busy being sick. sad

I got enough of that stuff talked about today at school anyway.

1. My band teacher said that the cars of the people who drove to work and died in the attack are still there, collecting dust. sad

2. I remembered that they raised the price of US flags a few weeks after the attacks. mad mad mad

3. The towers collapsed partly due to the fact that plane engine fuel helped make secondary explosions and heated the fire to the point of melting metal. sad

4. A man jumped out of the Towers and landed on an officer, killing him. sad

5. Osama Bin Laden is 45, if he's even still alive. roll eyes (sarcastic)

All very sad. I wonder if people thought I was crying because I was rubbing my eyes and sniffling all day. That's was just because I'm sick with a cold. The only time that I actually got sad was when the bagpiper my principal hired played "Amazing Grace," which made me flash back to my grandpa's funeral. (please log in to view the image)

I agree with what Dim said here earlier on

watched a little of it on TV.
but why did they have to mix religion into it? there were people from 84 countries who died, not all had the same religion! and religion is what caused all this anyways. instead of talking a lot about how god would make it stronger and all, couldnt they let christianity rest that day, and be neutral with religion?

Cultural differences, Julie? Well, not wanting to sound insulting, but I found large amounts of it very trite and more or less meaningless to me. The silence and the reading of the names of the dead, that was powerful stuff. But the songs? I thought I was watching some sort of parody for a moment there.

The solemn remembrance we had in the UK made more sense to me, and the passing over of the Union Jack that was found in the rubble (and the testimony from the officer who found it) was very poignant.

Like I say, cultural differences. It's just not the way we would have done it over here. Doesn't make it any less valid; it was just odd to watch.
