Ok, let me start by saiying that Gambit is my favourite X-man but even i don't like his charm power. The way i see it is that Gambit is a really charismatic guy.
First off all because of his personality. He is a character of contradictions wich make him cool.He is a very debonair and jovial character,really laidback,carefree and brash. He is a mutant that actually enjoys being a mutant. Also, he has a sense of humor, a sarcastic sense of humor. He hides his feelings behind this personality. This is a guy that was born a orphan, was raised in a crime family, was forced to leave his home and the woman he loved ( his wife) after he killed his brother in law in self defense. He was partially responsible for the mutant massacre. He has seen much tragidy in his life. He always felt really guilty about the massacre and other bad things he did. It haunts him. By joining the x-men he tries to make up for his past sins.
Another contradiction is the fact that Gambit is a real loner. He can charm anyone pants off and blend in with any crowd,yet he still prefers solitude.
The fact that he is so charming is part of what makes his fighting style so cool. Unlike Wolverine for example, Gambit doesn't jump in a fight without thinking. He always has a plan (well most of the time anyway). He will study you, observe and find your weakness. He doesn't mind looking weak in order to come up with a plan. Also Gambit doesn't physicly fight all his battles. He is known to talk his way out of fights by charming his enemies. He is very sly and sneaky. He can charm you to gain your trust but only for his purpose. You can't always trust him. But because he's so charming and deceiving,he can get on your good side, wether you like it or not.
His powers aren't the most original but they are pretty cool. He can use anything as a weapon. Gambit is really dangerous to have around. You could be fighting and then all of the sudden...BOOM!!! He charged your pants.

Sorry for the double post. but to me those are the reasons that make him cool.
His relationship with Rogue doesn't really do it for me. I like Gambit best when he's solo,scheming and flirting. Also, he is a good guy in a bad way. Everything isn't black and white with him.

That thing with "loves the women he can't even touch" is rather stupid anyway!!!
The X-Mens powers have been neutralized with technological devices (some of them being not bigger than a handcuff) so many times, it shouldn't be a problem for Rogue to wear such a device at least during her speartime. They also could equip her room at Xaviers with such a device, which they could turn on whenever they wanted to be intimate.
I really NEVER understood the "Rogue-power-problem", it's unimaginatively handled!!!

You say it man(or woman)!!! There are powercontrol devices for Cyclops, Surge and Iceman(during his X-Factor time) and Forge already constructed a powerneutralizing gun once...why shouldn't he be able to modify it for control purposes for Rogue???
