Oh that's a wild guess based on the stream of [something] going from the star to the Forge. I wouldn't even call it a conjecture, since we'll almost certainly never find out.

It's probably using the energy and matter from the star and using the... Dark Side, somehow, to form in to the necessary metals and gases.
