It's not just the English, ALL of their nearest neighbours do not like them, the spanish don't , the Italians don't, the Germans don't seem fussed, the Belgians - well you can ask Yerss his opinion of them when he gets back.
I am in France currently and i can tell u i hate french ppl!!!
The things that bothers me most is that if u go somewhere and u ask for directions in english ,even if they understand u they still won't help u ,in the best case they will answer u in french(and even if u understand a little french they speak it so fast and i don't differnet in a way that u don't undersatnd a thing). If u speak in english to them they give a look that makes u that u speak english!!!
French ppl suffer from a too too deep nationalism sense in my oppinion!
just the other week I met two lovely french girls (who my sister knows) who visited here, they spoke good english and said they were eager to learn more, also by visiting other countries and so on. couldn't see anything wrong with them.
they probably has to, as in almost all countries. thing is though, since in big foreign-speaking countries like france, spain, germany etc. they dub all TV, movies and the likes so they don't experience any other english than that at school, so obviously they're not as good.
Now I wasn't saying that french girls aren't nice cause they are BUT french people ,I don't know it's like they are ashamed to speak english in public ,it's like they would make shame of their language if they speak english!
Of course that if a french goes in an english speaking country he has to speak english weather he likes it or not!
I heard that it's and old rivalry between France and UK but this is to much!
My advice don't go to France if u don't know french or u don't have someone with u that knows or if u are goin to use the public transportation system to visit Paris!!!
BTW french subbed movies SUCK!!!!!It's one thing when u hear Wesley Snipes voice in Blade2 and it's another thing when u hear some stupid french guy voice instead of Blade. It most of the whole movie specially if the movie is a comedy!
It's unfair of us to make the sweeping generalisation that all French are bad, there will be some very nice French people, I myself know of a few, so Mah I am sure your acquantances were nice.
I too have found the reluctance to speak English, but have also found that if you at least attempt to speak French no matter how bad it is, the French people respect that and will then try to speak back in English to you, it is their natice tongue and a little more respectful to at least try.
Hey man i understand it's their native language and all BUT why the hell don't they speak english if they know it and they answer u in french still u questioned them in english!!!!????
Then it is you being rude and ignorant, if you are going to visit a country you should at least attempt to learn some basics of the primary language to help get you by, it's only good manners, so many people in this country complain about people coming here and their English not being very good, yet they will travel to other countries not even attempting to learn basic pleasantries, like hello and goodbye, let alone other things - it's just plain Rude. This does not mean I particularly like the French though they do make nice wine and cheeses.
Hello!!!I just said they refuse to answer u in english even if they know it!!!They just answer in french!!!And the thing is that i understand english and believe me i do know a little french but they speak quite different then the way we teach it in school.
First thing's first. Pinky...you do not know french...not even just a pinky
And there is a thing with this english domination. everyone's tempted to say.....oh, i know english, english is the most spread language on earth...i can manage anywhere. I would feel a little upset too if someone comes to my country and spks english and i go to his country and spk his language ( english in this case)
Actually it is optional and a lot of the students in non english speaking countries in Europe chose French as a second language.
We had, a while back, a French worker (living in Stavanger) bitching about that so few spoke French here. How was he to be understood when hardly no one spoke French in Stavanger... Just show their arrogance.
