Aside from the borderline retarded argument about whether remaking movies is a good idea or not, I think people are missing the point here. Obviously it's a dumb idea to remake The Warriors, because The Warriors was a great flick. The movies that you need to remake are the movies that should have been great but weren't, movies where the idea was excellent but the execution sucked.
So, Havana, which was a remake of Casablanca, was a dumb idea from the start, because Casablanca is an amazing movie and there's no way to improve it.
On the other hand, a movie like, say, Event Horizon, which had an intriguing premise, but a shlocky horror-movie execution, is ripe for a remake (well, maybe not in real life, but creatively).
So go from there... What movie would you do better with, keeping the same premise, but changing the execution.
