Walmart mass shooting suspect Benjamin Charles Jones was inspired by a racially-motivated violent extremist ideology, according to the FBI.
The 20-year-old is suspected of using a Hi-Point 45-caliber carbine to shoot four people at a Walmart in Beavercreek, Ohio on November 20th before turning the gun on himself. Officers found Nazi flags during a search of his house in Dayton.
Jones went to a Christian online school and spent all his time at home. He believed in right-wing conspiracy theories, including that the Holocaust did not happen, and had previously been admitted to hospital for mental-health evaluations.
Jones's extreme ideology, identified by the FBI, refers to a "loosely organized movement of individuals and groups that espouse some combination of racist, antisemitic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, misogynistic, and homophobic ideology."
The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher in Virginia was sentenced Friday to two years in prison for felony child neglect by a judge who chastised her for abdicating her responsibilities as a parent.
The sentence given to Deja Taylor by Circuit Court Judge Christopher Papile was much harsher than the maximum six-month sentence prosecutors agreed to recommend as part of a plea deal and also surpassed the high-end of advisory state sentencing guidelines.
Taylor, 26, pleaded guilty to a single count of felony neglect in August. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop a misdemeanor count of recklessly storing a firearm.
A Colorado man who killed five people in a 2022 mass shooting at a gay nightclub has agreed to plead guilty to federal hate crime and gun charges, according to court documents unsealed on Tuesday.
Anderson Lee Aldrich, 23, will plead guilty to 74 federal charges, according to court documents unsealed in U.S. District Court in the District of Colorado. That will result in "multiple concurrent life sentences plus additional consecutive sentences totaling 190 years imprisonment," according to the filings.
The documents state that Aldrich chose his targets "because of the actual and perceived sexual orientation and gender identity" of those in the nightclub where he opened fire.
Aldrich modeled the shooting after the 2016 massacre at Pulse—a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida—where a gunman killed 49 people before police shot him dead.
Apparently, when faced with the death penalty, Aldrich dropped his non-binary act, and confessed to hate crimes in order to save his life.
After being involuntarily disengaged from the cajoling of the online hate communities in which he posted for over a year, and facing real-world consequenes, he realized that his little trolling stunt was not funny after all, and he should quietly plead guilty to all charges.
Seems he was pretending to be non-binary as a means to avoid the hate crime charges and made a deal where he accepts the hate crimes in exchange for 150+ years in prison getting all the receptive oral and anal sex he wants (and doesn't want), instead of being executed.
I'm assuming here, Adam can chime in as he's been following the story.

Denton Loudermill, the Kansas City man who was falsely accused of being a shooter in the Chiefs rally mass shooting, has filed a defamation suit against Republican Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee over his social media posts naming Loudermill as the shooter.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas, states that Burchett shared photos of Loudermill on his personal social media account, saying he was one of the shooters, and referring to him as an "illegal alien."
Attorneys for Loudermill state he has received death threats as a result of Burchett's post on X, and are asking $75,000 in damages for acts considered "willful, wanton, reckless, and malicious."
Re: GOP Rep Sued for Falsely Naming Man as KC Shooter
He should be suing Republican Tim Burchett for a lot more than $75k. Burchett will just do GoFundMe, add a line about 'Jesus' and "Liberals' and Republicans will donate blindly.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed into law three more bills Friday, including a debated measure that will effectively kill a pending lawsuit by the city of Gary against gun manufacturers and sellers. -snip
For nearly a quarter century, some of the world’s largest gunmakers have tried unsuccessfully to beat back a lawsuit brought by the city of Gary, Indiana, accusing them of turning a blind eye to illegal gun sales. -snip
Republicans in Indiana doing their best to make it even easier for guns to be sold to criminals and it looks like they've succeeded.
We're going to need more "thoughts and prayers" soon.
