Truckers, like Coffman, lean conservative. A Verdant Labs analysis of Federal Elections Commission data found that nearly three-quarters of truck drivers are Republican — one of the most conservative jobs in America, along with surgeons and farmers.
And truck drivers supported Trump in droves, according to an Overdrive magazine survey from 2016. About 75% said they planned to vote for Trump, up from 66% who supported Sen. Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee in 2012.
But a sharp downturn in the trucking industry and a slew of tax changes have hampered their ability to make a living. And many connect those two trends to Trump's economic policies. -snip

For someone who claims to love America, hand-waving the damage being done to our Farmers and Truckers (who are largely Conservative voters no less), it's very telling.

However, it also could be one of the keys to getting Trump a crap ton of votes.
This is not my original idea so I can't take credit for it. But here's the general approach strategy for what is going on with this Trade War:
1. Create an artificial trade war/create an enemy or over-hype an enemy (China).
2. Cause enough problems that there is a slight economic impact. Maybe even a moderate impact.
3. Create fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
4. Resolve the artificially created problem.
5. Tout yourself a a genius, hero, and resolution specialist.
6. Win more support than you started with.
That wouldn't be the first time Trump created a problem, used our tax dollars to temp band-aid it and then claim he's the savior. Done it twice already with the billions to bail out our farmers that are wallowing under his polices/tradewars.
There's very likely going to be a 3rd even larger one for farmers in 2020.
Yeah this strategy is nothing new, I wonder though, if this is the case does he have enough time left to remedy it?
We tell the drivers in work about a lorry drivers strike in 1979 that correlated with a 40% reduction in prostitute murder rates, it's a complete fabrication as far as I'm aware but I love seeing their faces react.

Your edge-boy edge aside, no, small businesses are important to the US economy
It's not just independent truckers who are hurting under Trump's disastrous policies, it's larger shipping companies as well; if they have less product to ship; they cut down on their truckers/employees runs/hours.
