Synopsis: Examines the lesser-known musical career of 89-year-old composer Paul Bowles, most famous for writing the novel "The Sheltering Sky." Having been mentored at age 17 by composer Aaron Copland, Bowles went on to write his own musical compositions for the New York theater and art world of the 1930s and 40s. Collaborations in his early career of music included works with high profilers such as: Orson Welles, Tennessee Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Lincoln Kirstein, Merce Cunningham and Virgil Thomson. Before moving onto a successful career as a writer, Bowles' prolific output as a musician stood as an accomplished body of work in itself.
