PINK FLOYD ROCKS! posers are a different story
I seriously think Pink Floyd is one of the most awesome bands in the world! I was brought home from the hospital listening to their tapes. This is also the reason I am so mad about people who wear Pink Floyd shirts and wouldn't know a Pink Floyd song if it reached up and bit them. I just want to know how many people are true fans.

Why do you say she only knows one song ?
the only thing she mentioned was Another Brick In The Wall. no other albums, no other songs. thats probably why. its not that hard to figure out. now if she would have mentioned some albums, maybe a different (non-radio hit) song then it would have been more believable that she is a "true" Pink Floyd fan and not one of the "posers" she talks about.

omg
my thoughts EXACTLY!
everytome i see a shirt i ask the person if they can name 5 songs
At the risk of getting myself in trouble, drugs seem to enhance the whole experience of THE WALL. Try 'shrooms, man...Talk about living in a paranoid state - I thought the walls were breathing!
Floyd is definitely one of those bands that transcended all of the other less interesting music of the 70s and 80s. I agree with what someone said previously; I like the album Momentary Lapse of Reason w/Learning to Fly, Dogs of War, title song...etc. Great group. David Gilmore is one of the most prolific "slow-hand" guitarist out there. His solos are all about finding the perfect sound. Incredible...

There's a difference between accepting they have a place in musical history and agreeing they are one of the greatest bands ever. You aren't the latter just because you have the former.
E.g: I respect what, say, Maiden have done. I don't think they're anything special. Same with Pink Floyd.

I see your point. I think this (to me) means both however. I see the talent/genius in their work, but it does nothing for me.
...kind of like Stephen Hawking is one of the smartest individuals ever that has ever lived. But, what do I care........kind of scenario.

It seems like people care so little about having an opinion that they simply say they respect Pink Floyd because it's Pink Floyd.I don't care about Pink Floyd, so then it's of no concern to me to say I respect them or not.

Valid point. However, Muhammad Ali did nothing for me either, and is still one the most easily recognized people on the planet. People respect Ali because he's Ali, whether or not he did anything for him. See the flipside. Tomato, toe-mah-toe.
But, yes I see your point too. 😉

Exactly, and that's stupid. Why on Earth would you respect someone because of WHO they are? I respect Ali for what he did in sports, something nobody else has done and probably will never do again. I don't respect him simply because his name is Muhammad Ali.
I haven't gained anything from him, but I do respect what he's done because I recognise that it's not something to you see every day, I see him as a skilled sportsman that won't be repeated.
I don't see Pink Floyd as the great songwriters and great band that everyone else does, so I'm not going to say I respect them for "what they did", because I haven't seen them "do" anything. If they had, and I didn't like them, I'd at least respect their achievements, but they haven't got any worth recognising, to me.
Judas Priest were actually a big part of establishing heavy metal as a musical genre (After Sabbath created it), which has given us many great bands. They have noticeable marks on musical history. If someone said "What did they do?", you can attribute things to them. There's not much I can attribute to Pink Floyd.
Just to explain my point of view a bit more.
