1995: Fell down a slippery flight of stairs coated in ice. Managed some funky Aikido roll trick, and only sprained my shoulder.
1999: Visiting Stonybrook in the US. Was so jetlagged I fainted.
2001: In London. Again so jetlagged I fainted in Heathrow.
2003: Got run down by a military jeep in down-town, that passed so close to me on my bike, it caught my steer, stopped an I flew over the steer. That must be the scariest moment in my life – like in the movies, time slowed and everything. Once again (nose to the ground towards Iwama, Japan), managed some Aikido fall technique and only has a small scar above my eyebrow to show. The doctor at the trauma-center told me I could’ve died. I felt very fortunate.
Those were the accidents. I’ve also been in hospitals for non-urgent surgery, an abortion, and to give blood, when I was a donor, to visit ill friends and family, to study the scanners as part of my science-exam, etc etc etc 🙂
