Well... in theory, after your heart is ripped out, you can remain conscious for about 6 seconds until the brain becomes too hypoxic causing you too pass out.

Therefore if you were asleep and someone ripped your heart out, the pain from the trauma could wake you up, technically with no heart you are dead, so for about 6 seconds you could wake up dead...
