In Revelations John sees the stars falling and the heavens going dark, now if at some point all stars go supernova at once then the redshift will make it look like streaks of light and depending on where you're looking from it could be like they were falling.

What you've just told me is the stars I see at night are just explosions from millions and billions of years ago.

No they're shining just like they did in their prime but they have already exploded and gone dark we just haven't gotten caught up because of the distance in between. And some stars are traveling so far the other way at the speed of light we'll never even get the light from them.
