Catcher in the Rye was okay - but I read it after university, and by then I had read so many good books that it was just another good book, it didn't really stand out for me.
I read "I am David" when I was still quite young, and that made a HUGE impression on me.
If we are talking about classic books - "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" was excellent, as was "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test." On another note, I have just finished Marilyn Manson's autobiography - and all I can say is "Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy..."

Does anybody think this book is by far the best book ever written? J.D. Salinger in one good writer.
I always liked what Dennis Miller said about the book and it's author:
"J.D. Salinger released his book, "catcher in the rye" today. He plans to promote the book by disappearing and never being heard from again."
