Anakin....Your Father Is....

Anakin does not have a father. He was conceived by midichlorians. Anakin is an archetypal heroic figure that is portrayed throughout the saga. It is this heroic arc that marks many themes in myth. Almost all the time in myths the hero will be born under extraordinary circumstances, most often a virgin birth. Lucas, being very endowed in mythic lore, certainly knows this fact which is why he devloped Anakin being conceived within a virgin birth. Lucas would destroy this mythic theme by having it be otherwise such as having Anakin actually have a father.

finti is talking about the Bible. But Lucas has used all sort of mythology in both SW and IJ, so this is just another aspect of it, no big deal really. I imagine that if Shmi were lying QC would have sensed it.

i agree with jedi oaisis completely. that's what i was thinking about when the conversation first turned to the virgin birth and such.

if you take a close look at star wars, you will find at least a small bit of every culture's mythology embedded within it. i tried to do a report on the mythology of star wars for an english class, and within an hour of surfing the net i was buried waist high in research and parallels.

it would not surprise me one bit if the great flanneled one were to leave anakin's birth as a virgin birth. after all, there are other christian parallels within the star wars movies. i.e. what about the 12 jedi on the council, and the 12 apostles?

As I said before, many cultures' mythology involve the use of a virgin birth. We just happen to live in a Christian-centered Western society that will see the virgin birth in terms of the bible only rather than a prevelant theme throughout all mythology.

I belive there are 12 members of a jury during a court trail in the US as well.

just a little thought I had. Qui Gonn mentions ' it is possible hewas concieved by the midid chlorians'. Ok what if midid chlorians are good and bad and this determines a persons eventual stance within the force? Bear with me. What if he was concieved by dark midi chlorians? What if they were somehow induced to do so by a very evil dark spirit , you see where I'm going here? Just a thoguht and very unlikely I know. Also what if the reason why yoda and Mace dont believe him to be the choosen one is because yoda is ? but rather than blast it from the roof tops etc he keeps it secret. He does train the man that brings balance in the end. I suppose it depends on your point of view.

I would think that being evil would be a personality trait, something that comes about after living under certain conditions, and wouldn't be caused by something within DNA (or in this case, the Midichlorians). Just a thought.

Lucas said Anakin is the Choosen One. I wish it was Luke(he's my favortie character) but Star Wars is the Anakin Skywalker story, the rise, the fall, the redemption. And if the prophecy said the Choosen One is concieved by the midichlorians then that means Anakin was concieved by the midichlorians. The father surprise(?), been there, done that.

Shmi was very sketchy about the information she actually gave Qui Gon because, lets face it....he was a TOTAL STRANGER !!! Him, Padme, R2, and...JarJar show up on her front door step, from off-planet no less, never seen them before..how personal was she supposed to get with them ?
