On April 2, 2001 at 6:20 A.M., Jennifer Syme crashed her 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The SUV flipped and likely killed her instantly. Reeves and Syme were no stranger to tragedy; their first child together was stillborn.

Syme, 29, reportedly was being treated for depression and taking two prescription drugs, which police found in the car. They said they also found two rolled-up dollar bills with traces of a white powder that's being tested.
