the future?

As I'm sure you have noticed, at 2:14-2:15, we see one of the ships crashing - more importantly, crashing from a blue sky which includes a sliver of the moon! Is it possible that there is a place on Earth which has either been left untouched by the robots - another idea I had is that perhaps Neo "trades" with the big face: he kills Smith in exchange for some untouched place to start a human colony.

Just ranting - btw, thanks to everyone for all the posts - I've been reading for a while now (this is my first post 🙂 )

Not exactly. If you look at the trail of smoke, it looks like it’s flying ABOVE the scorched black clouds, then looses momentum and “falls”/flies back down again.

Perhaps Neo and Trinity, on their way to the Speak-machine, and possibly their deaths, decide to see if the sky really IS blue above the black clouds. There is only high-altitude clouds, so it would make sense.
