Go to the products section of Metacortex and download the Wallpaper. Covered in binary code and that is what it decodes to.

I am starting to think this is the hoax of some idiot

He isn't an idiot to be able to set up all the sites he has done.

If this was real, the name would have been trademarked. And it it not.

nah, i'm sure the wachowskis in collabration with warner bros and village roadshow did it, i mean there is a lot to the site...

I am sure Metacortex already IS trademarked by the Wachowski's. Wouldn't surprise me. I mean, whoever has done it has even set up a fake hosting provider, a fake employee's website, sub companies for Metacortex and even a fake hotel website called Aquaopolis or something which is hosted by the fake hosting company...

It is not. It is protected in the movie, cause it is part of a movie. when you go to the trademark office ... nothing.

yeah, they went to ALOT of trouble to set this up, so i think its legit, i mean, as legit as a site for a fake company that happens to occur in the movie we all love, but...you know what i mean...

Well, they do indeed own the rights to it if it is protected in the movie.

Putting the name of a fictious company in a movie does not create a trademark right. The only way you obtain trademark rights is by filing with your country's Trademark office, or by doing business under a name and mark.

If I was to open a company called Metacortex, WB could not use the movie as a basis to stop me from doing business under that name. They would have to show that they are doing business under that name and that people would confuse the two companies. Since it is a fictious company, they cannot show they are doing business under this company.

In reality, you do not have to register a trademark. But, it helps if you do, and may give you certain rights, but it is not a necessity.

Example: I open a company called McDonalds and try to get a trademark. If my company sells clothing and does not look like or use the red and yellow colors of the fast-food chain, most likely I would be able to use the name and trademark. Because people are not going to think that the clothes are coming from the fast food company. But, if I changed my logo to look more like the fast food chain, or started to sell food, the real McDonald's could probably force me to change my name or stop selling hamburgers and fries.

there are different kinds of copyright protection. In the movie, it protected as a creative material. But if you wanted to start the company up for real, there nothing stopping you. As long as your product does not confuse or defame the public.

This could be a test of some school.
Think about it. The have simple hashing schemes. Simple domain setup. Flash presentations.
Plus all the sites are so different they look like works of different people at different levels of skill. The most advance site is beth's. The lowest is the hosting company. So backwards.

All that said, it is fun to figure out the puzzle. whoever set this up did good. a break from all the fake "i saw the movie already" people.

Ok then, it is the copyright, not trademark. That makes it theirs.

yeah, it is good to get a break from THOSE people...

t-shirt is right, My own company has the same name as a truestar product. Although i did not tradmark the name and the did. They can't stop me from using it. I had it first so it's my web address. They have offered to buy it, but at a low $$$

Say no, make them pay more. Don't let them control you, you control them 😄 If they want it badly, they will pay ... muhahahaha

we will know who owns tis site. Anyone ran the whois on the hosting company.

I get plenty of there customers looking for there products. I send all the emails to the vp of marketing.

Don't send em - tell em you keep getting emails - they will be interested 🙂
