I cannot stand Lucas.
Star Wars - The original was great (hey, I was 10 or something at the time).
The Empire Strikes Back - Good. Not great, but not unhappy with it.
Return of the Jedi - Okay, didn't we already see a Death Star? The Ewoks were annoying to heck. Wait-it looks like they were a sell out to all the company with merchandise contracts.
Phantom Menace - I've already seen this movie. The end is the same as two of the last three (get near the main reactor and blow something up). The race sequence - a repeat of the forest seens on Endor. What is new here? All they did was take an old script, change it and add a few extra seens. Jar Jar - Huge - HUGE sell out. And racist at that.
Attack of the Clones - okay. Not great. Not good. But okay. Lots of sell outs. (George - I can't put a coke in the movie, but I can make 7 seens that can be sold as individual video games.)
If you go back and look at these movies, they are sad. The first is good. It was novel. The overall idea is good. Then, they went from basically cowboys in space (which was good) to kids meals (which was bad). The movies are HORRIBLY written. ("My blue friend." - Actual line from the last movie. Have you ever EVER said or heard "My black/yellow/red/white/Spanish/French...friend" to anyone? After the first made about a bajillion dollars, he should have written really good writers, given them his overall picture, where to start and stop, and gotten the hell out of their way. Instead, he insisted on writing and all other crap. Shame. He took a really good (maybe the best in history) movie franchise and turned it into a UPN quality drama.
