Steve Martin in the Pink Panther

MGM has offered Steve Martin the lead role of Inspector Clouseau in Birth of the Pink Panther, hoping that Martin will spearhead the rebirth of the comic franchise originated by Peter Sellers. Len Blum wrote the script for Montecito partners Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock. If a deal can be worked out, Martin would star in the film in 2004.

MGM has been trying for years to rebirth the "Pink Panther" franchise, which placed bumbling crime fighter Inspector Clouseau in high-level crime situations that always resulted in strong pratfall and farcical comedy.

Blum's prequel script has the inept sleuth assigned to solve the murder of the nation's soccer team coach while investigating the disappearance of the legendary Pink Panther diamond. That bauble, the national treasure of the Eastern state of Lugash, frequently disappeared in the earlier Panther pics

i loved pink panther when i was smaller 😄

The Pink Panther 2005

Don't think anyone has posted this topic already, if they have sorry.

Just wondering if anyone else, apart from me, is looking forward to this Steve Martin version of The Pink Panther?

I know there has been alot of negative reaction towards this film, but from what I've seen from the two trailers I've watched it looks good. The trailers have both made me laugh, I think it looks really good.

Anyone agree?

I hated the original Pink Panther, but surprisingly I laughed my ass off during the 2nd movie. Steve Martin is pretty funny too, so I guess I'll see this when it comes out.

There's this thread 🙂

^ thanks tears.

God No.

Remakes only proove that hollywood is out of ideas. Some Pink Panther films Where Great, But to remake it, is just Fvcking dumb.

Its as thought you would re-make the three stooges...You can't do that!!!! They are original and untouchable, they are a "legand" - so to speak, you can't touch them, if you where to, you should be shot, You'd defile them.

To Remake the Pink panther, is to Defile what it is.

Steve Martin's career has gone considerably downhill in recent years, with the Cheaper by the Dozen movies especially.

I braely remember the original pink panther movies, something I have to revisit, although I remember the, being good. I like Steve Martin, he has done some great roles (Bowfinger comes to mind). We'll have to see the final product later.

Yeah, Bowfinger was probably his latest movie that I liked. Bringing Down the House had maybe one or two funny parts.

In my opinion, Peter Sellers did a good job as Inspector Clouseau.
I'm not looking forward to this film, but I will rent it.
You'll never know until the movie comes out. It'll either be worst or better than you thought.

From the trailers it looks better than I had expected.

I think Steve Martin has picked some dodgy roles recently. Not a huge fan of the Cheaper by the Dozen film, nor the look of the sequal.

Although I think Shopgirl looks good. I think I will go and see that.

I must say I am looking forward to this Pink Panther film.

This looks horrible.
