The wachowskis did not cast keanu reeves. In fact when WB told wachowskis thats who they were casting, they were very skeptical at first, but later were very very glad he was the casting choice.

At the time he was chosen solely on his appeal to the demographic.

They originally wanted Ewan Mcgregor. He plays Obi-wan in Star Wars Episode 1 and 2
