I thought pirates of the caribean was over rated up and down. I enjoyed parts because of depp's character, but the movie was horribly boring and rushed.
I have to disagree with you, ragesRemorse. I loved Pirates of the Caribbean. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. I didn't think it was boring or rushed. I loved it! Your entitled to your opinion, but I'm really curious as to know why you dislike the movie so much.
And as far as the hype thing goes, I saw the movie the weekend it came out, so I didn't hear much hype until after its weekend opening. I guess that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. I came into the theater not really expecting anything other than to be entertained. Actually, when I got to the movies it was so packed that my friend and I had to sit in one of the front rows. I had no idea so many people had wanted to go see it. What I'm trying to say is that if you know that there's a movie you want to see, you should see it the weekend it's released. That way, you're not over-hyping the movie and you'll be able to watch it without other people's opinions influening you. The longer you wait to see the movie, the more intense the hype gets, and the more you start to have high (and sometimes too high) expectations. With that said, there is no way you can escape all hype, especially with the bigger movies, which are constantly hyped on TV commercials, adds, and promotions.
Another point I want to make is the audience. The audience you are with can greatly influence your decision about a movie. The ones who usually see a movie on its opening weekend are generally the big movie buffs, such as myself, and are usually prone to be a more interactive and cooperative audience (meaning they clap, laugh, gasp, scream, etc at the right and intended moments, making the movie experience better). The ones who end up seeing it later, aren't as cooperative,
because 1- they've heard others talk about it and expect to much or 2- they are just not as interested in seeing the movie as the ones who saw it first. When I was watching both POTC and ROTC, the audience was very interactive. It was really fun to hear peoples' reactions. It made the movie experience all the better.
