The Matrix after Revolutions? (Spoilers)
Okay, I see a lot of threads stumbling over the question of what REALLY happened to the Matrix at the very end of Revolutions.
Here’s MY take on it. Let’s discuss it 🙂
Whatever Neo has set his mind on, when he decided to go to zero one is an entire topic in itself. Both he and Trin looked exhausted through the second part of Revolutions, as if they both, somehow, knew they wouldn’t “come back”.
When Trinity dies, Neo is fully prepared to sacrifice himself. He bargains with the Speak-machines (as we actually DID guess at here). I see the speak-machine as the machine-main frame in the real world. Or at the very least the master-control of it. The central data-base/processor.
So Neo fights Smith one last time. Why? Why doesn’t he simply let Smith take him over? Because he chooses to? Is it his final show of defiance, until he hears the Oracle through Smith telling him that “everything that has a beginning has an end?” And so, just like Neo destroyed Agent Smith from the inside, Smith infects Neo from the outside.
The Speak-machine registers this and sends the (compliment of SimplePriest) Norton Anti-virus through Neo’s body, into the Smith-infected digital self, from where it spreads to everyone infected by Smith.
Neo’s 1 and Smith’s –1 cancel each other. In the real world we see Neo’s body. He’s not breathing, nor moving, and he doesn’t get up, but is carried off like some Viking funeral (or like Boromir in LotR, or King Arthur in the Arthurian legends).
In the Matrix we don’t see Neo’s digital self next to the Oracle. The Matrix resets itself, the damage is repaired, and Sati wakes up. In the final scene we see “The Mother of the Matrix”, “The father of the Matrix” and “The child of the Matrix.”
IS the Matrix Reloaded? It can be, as the anomaly was returned to the Source (that is, at least, how I see it). But it doesn’t seem to loop back in time. Is it allowed to continue and grow?
I don’t think Neo’s become “God” of the Matrix. That would defy the theme of the Matrix movies. But has anyone here read Dune by Frank Herbert? Especially Dune Messiah?
The Oracle hints at “we” may some day see Neo again. So is he dead or not? Will his digital self wander the Matrix forever, looking for a trace of Trinity. That she alone, and not with Seraph and Morpheus went to Mobil Ave has made me ponder this a little. Especially as the ETM-players among us know, that the oracle specifically tells Niobe that TRINITY can help Neo.
